GDSS increases the benefits of collaboration and decisions making through a variety of ways. Some of these ways are that it enables the members to contribute in parallel. As a result of the parallel communication, more information can be collected within a short period. It provides an open and collaborative meeting environment that allows its members to express themselves more freely.

Another benefit is that its tools have features that allow it to formulate alternatives and negotiate alternatives and be used for voting. It fosters communication, which is used to facilitate interactive information sharing among the group members. It employs collaborative software tools which are beneficial in reducing cognitive expenditures of communication and information access. Another benefit is that it reduces the team members' distraction, and it influences them to maintain the same focus and work collaboratively towards the same goal. In fostering collaboration, it is also used to brainstorm and categorize the complex means of analyzing alternatives.

Anonymity is another major advantage that promotes increased participation among team members and encourages information sharing. The group members are not afraid of ridicule, and the members are less compelled to conform to the groups of the leaders' opinions. The model allows the members to eliminate the need to listen when others are taking and cannot allow other people to think through its ability to make the members speak in parallel.

GDSS also records other people's comments, analyses the vote rankings and other information shared by the group members in an electronic file (Sharda et al. 2020). The automated record keeping allows the group members to freely engage and eliminate the need to take notes manually or the participants to keep track of what is being said. The members have a humble time to comprehend what is being said as they are not forced to process information quickly and participate enough.
