GC&E Learning Objective: ________________________________________________________________________ “Analyze the use of the world’s resources to achieve sustainability and equitable distribution at the personal, professional, and global level.” ___________________________________________________________________________________ This course emphasizes that businesses should be socially responsible, ecological sustainable and reduce their

carbon footprint. Ikea is an example of such a company. It designs, manufactures and sells a variety of products

globally.

Your objective for this project is to do an Internet based literature search and describe in detail, the

methods/processes used by IKEA to design and develop green products, sustainable production processes, and

implement its eco-friendly supply chain.

Your report should address the following topics: 1. Introduction to ecological sustainability

2. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability objectives of IKEA

3. Green Product Design at IKEA

3a. Describe the general guidelines for designing an environmentally friendly product;

3b. Product design system/methodology used at IKEA;

3c. provide some examples of the IKEA’s successful green product designs.

4. Eco-friendly production/manufacturing processes used at IKEA

4a. Describe the guidelines used by IKEA to make their operations/production processes eco-

friendly;

4b. Give examples of some of the successful green manufacturing processes used at IKEA..

This is a team/group project. The group size is limited to a maximum of five (5) students. Your report should be

1500 – 2500 words (excluding quoted and bibliographic material) long, typewritten and professional looking. It

should be in the APA format, and should be written by you in your own words. The “Turnitin” Similarity Index

(SI) of your report should be less than 15%.

Please submit a copy of your report in the eCentennial course drop box by the due date.

This project is worth 10% of your term marks.

Important This is a group work and you are required to work in a collaborative, cooperative and harmonious manner. In case of any group issues/problems, your group is deemed dissolved, and each member may be asked to submit a separate and full report. Each group member is required to maintain a log of all the group activities participated in and tasks undertaken. Your submission will be scanned by “Turnitin” and marks will be deducted if the originality is violated. Report Originality Your submission will be scanned by “Turnitin” and marks will be deducted if the originality is violated. The

Similarity Index of the paper is based on the amount of matching or similar text that was uncovered. The

percentage range is 0% to 100%. Following system will be used for report’s originality evaluation:

Originality Assessment & Penalty

Up to 10% Good 10% -15% Acceptable but with a nominal (10%) penalty

>15% Unacceptable. Either resubmit the report, with SI <10%, for a 20% penalty assessment or obtain a zero on the report.
