design thinking process
FAQs relating to Group Report and Presentation:
· What are 'preliminaries'? Everything you have to include in a report before the first real section of the report starts; this may include: title page, contacts of project team members, executive summary, table of contents, acknowledgements, etc.
· What is a report and what does it look like? Please make use of the ALC for support on how to prepare for and write a report: https://www.cqu.edu.au/student-life/services-and-facilities/academic-learning-centre
· Can we have sub-headings or a detailed structure to use for our report? Yes, a report typically follows this structure: title page, Table of Contents, Executive Summary, Main Body, Reference list, Appendices.
· Can we have sub-headings in the Executive Summary? Yes, definitely.
· How do we submit our assignment? Please submit it electronically via the Moodle site. Preferred format is MS Word for the report and MS PowerPoint for the presentation. Only ONE person per team submits on behalf of the team.
· How do we 'submit' the presentation? On-campus students will present in class and submit the PowerPoint slides via Moodle. You should use PowerPoint but are encouraged to complement this with additional visual aids (e.g. printed diagrams, prototypes, etc.). Distance students will present via video conferencing or submit a video (alternatively, submit a link to a YouTube video).
· Can we submit the slides and then make changes and present the final version on the day? No. The slides that your group has submitted by the deadline will be the slides you will present. Changes to the slides are NOT permitted - you may bring in other visual aids (e.g. prototypes, posters, etc.) when you present, but the slides need to be finalised when you submit them.
· DISTANCE: Do we have to be visible in our video? Yes, please. Doing a voice-over is not enough to show your presentation skills. Please make sure all group members are in the video (e.g. by using software like Camtasia or Zoom) - you can, for instance, record each member separately and then combine them into one single video for submission.
· What videoformat can we submit? Any format that can be played on the commonly available video players on a computer. MP4 or WMV are the preferred formats. Please do NOT submit wlmp files - these are NOT video files, but project files and they can NOT be viewed. If you work with Windows Live Movie Maker, you need to save the file as a video before you submit it! Here is some information about the project format: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-pictures/why-wont-a-wlmp-file-play/dbf04009-1e77-4dd1-8dfd-9b27e7644eba
· Will anyone other than the markers see the assignment? Yes: Some reports/PPTs may be shown to future cohorts. In addition, the teaching team may wish to use your reports/PPTs as data for research projects - all reports/PPTs will be fully anonymised and only the written material itself (not the details of the students) will be utilised as data. Should you wish for your work to not be considered as part of any future research projects, please email the unit co-ordinator.
· The assignment asks for a minimum of 8 references in the presentation and 8 in the report. Does that mean we need a minimum of 16 all up? Not necessarily. The presentation and report link together and you can use the same references twice, but obviously only if the references fit what you are saying! You may also use some of your literature from the poster again in your assessment 2 and you can then even use some of this literature again for your reflective report, IF the literature fits what you are saying.
· What content do we include in the report? You need to compare your experience of doing DT (this is based on YOUR experience, i.e. write in first person) with the realities of implementing DT in organisations (this is based on your reading of the literature). For example: The literature identified that a common challenge for enterprise in general is the fear of failure, which often results in employees and management not wanting to engage in experimentation ( Brown and Wyatt, 2010 ). We know that experimentation is a key component of DT ( Glen et al., 2014 ), and we were constantly encouraged to just try out some DT tools, but we still felt uncomfortable and were worried that we would fail.
