3R - Teaching Classroom Rules

Regardless of what rules you choose as you start your first year of teaching, all classroom management experts will agree on one thing: Rules must be taught!

Based on the required reading and supplemental materials in all Foundations of Teaching Modules, write a lesson plan and, using the Sibme platform, record yourself teaching your most important classroom rule to your students.

Choose from any of the following correctly-written rules:

· I will keep my hands and feet to myself

· I will wait my turn to talk

· I will use school-accepted language

· I will stay within my space

· I will stay on the task assigned

The 10-13 minute lesson should follow these guidelines:

Please view the model videos (Grade 4 & Grade 10) in the “FOT Module 3_3R: Teaching Classroom Rules Collaboration Huddle” on the Sibme platform.

Before recording, please review the “Directions for Getting Started with Sibme”—available in the SIBME tab on Blackboard. You can also visit and search the Sibme Help Center (help.sibme.com).

After recording, the video will need to be copied by Thursday at midnight to your individual Assessment Huddle on the Sibme platform. This is where you will upload your completed lesson plan—also due Thursday--as an attachment. Next, on Friday between 7:00 AM and Saturday at 9:00 AM, please copy your classroom rules video lesson from your Workspace to the “FOT Module 3_3R: Teaching Classroom Rules” Collaboration Huddle so your peers will have the opportunity to begin commenting on the videos. You will make 2 different comments on the videos of 2 different peers for a total of 4 comments by Sunday at midnight. Your comments should pertain to both of the following elements:

· Whole Video Comment: What is the greatest strength of the teacher who is teaching the rule?

· Time-Stamped Comment: Identify the moment in the video when the teacher did something that you would like to incorporate while teaching your own rules one day. Briefly explain.

*Remember that it is good etiquette to comment on videos that may not already have comments.

Grading:

While your peers are making comments to your video in the Collaboration Huddle, I will make my comments in the private Assessment Huddle I have with each of you.

Grade: 100 pts. (80 for the recording and lesson plan; 10 points for each of the peer responses)
