For your Assignment Unit 9

you will design a hypothetical study using a withdrawal design for the target behavior and intervention you chose in Unit 5. A Tip Sheet for the Unit 9 Assignment is in Course Documents and will provide guidance in developing your Assignment. In your write up, be sure to include the following (see the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association for more specific details about what to include in each section):

· Cover Page

· Abstract

· Brief Introduction (research questions, hypotheses, etc.)

· Method (including participants; sampling procedures; sample size; target behavior; research design; ethical, legal, and sociocultural concerns; experimental manipulations or interventions; method of recording behaviors; reliability and validity of your measures)

· Results (provide mock data here), descriptive statistics, visual displays

· Discussion (including: the meaning and implications of the study; limitations; suggestions for future research)

· References

Be sure to use proper APA style throughout, with a minimum of 10-15 pages total.

The paper should:

· Follow assignment directions (review grading rubric for best results).

· Use correct APA formatting per the APA Publication Manual, 6th Edition.

· Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English.

· Be written in Standard American English and be clear, specific, and error-free. If needed, be sure to use the University Writing Center for help.

Your Assignment will be due at the end of Unit 9. Submit your work via the Unit 9: Assignment Dropbox.

Unit 5 intervention

A target behavior would be a child who is 8 years old boy and isolates himself from group activities. The child shows high levels of anxiety when in group activities and tends to isolate himself in a corner of them room. I would like to use the token system as a reinforcement. A token for every activity the boy joins in on and participates in, he will earn a token to use towards a treasure at the end of day or can save them to use for a bigger prize at the end of week. I believe this would help with his anxiety as well as becoming more social with others and less likely to be isolated or feel like he is being pushed out by others. This will be an ongoing intervention if it shows improvement in his anxiety and social skills.

Unit 5 I talked a boy who is 8 years old that isolates himself socially and does not like partaking in any group activities. Since he shows high levels of anxiety and shuts completely down when he is asked to join the groups and will hide in the corner with his head in his arms. I would like to implement the MB or MP design across the context since I am identifying behavior in one individual. I will identify a minimum of three similar yet functionally independent context for him (Ledford, and Gast 2018). Prior to starting this study, I am also going to identify a criterion to start my intervention process.so, for the intimal introduction, stability in all tiers is an appropriate, conservative criterion (Ledford, and Gast 2018). Then I will set a criterion level for the remaining tiers (85-90% correct or better for the 3 consecutive sessions) or a visual analysis criterion (following at clear change in level, with at least 3 consecutive sessions having no overlapping data in the baseline) (Ledford, and Gast 2018). I will also identify the method I am using to which I will assign contexts to the tiers. I also need to determine priori frequency of reliability and fidelity of data collection and will conduct my collection of data for the remaining of my study. Then concurrently collect baseline data for all my contexts. Finally, when all the data in all tiers are stable, I then can intervene in the first context (Ledford, and Gast 2018).

A multiple baseline design across settings will be used with this intervention.  Setting one, tier 1, will be in the classroom where group activities are done daily for about 30-45 mins. During this session the child will be placed in a group setting of 1-2 kids and will be asked to join in on the activities. If the child starts to display anxiety, he will be allowed to step out of the group for a minimum of 5 mins to collect his thoughts and rejoin the group. Tier 2 will take place in the library during reading time and this setting will follow tier one. Tier 3 will be during PE and will follow the same setting as tier 1. Once this criterion is met for the 30-45 mins and the child can stay in the group’s settings, I will then be able to slowly add more kids to his group in hopes that his anxiety will decrease. This will continue for 3 consecutive sessions or until the participant is able to reach the criterion.
