Module 2.1 Academic Research Project – Gapminder

Research Paper Planning Sheet

Abstract

The section is to help a potential reader identify whether your report is worth reading. It is a summary of each part of your research paper. Although it appears at the start of your paper, it is often the very last part written. It includes the principal conclusions and grammatically follows the same tense as the rest of the paper.

Introduction

Why did you do the study? The main aim of the introduction is to supply your readers with background information and explain your reasons for conducting your study. You must include your research/thesis question and the scope of your paper. Sometimes you also include your hypothesis – what you expect to learn from your results.

Literature Review / Method

What sources did you use? How did you do your research? The purpose of this part is to provide a context for your research. Here you explain and evaluate the sources you used to conduct your research.

Results

What did you find out? In this section you present your key findings and show how these relate to the original purpose of your paper. It can include tables, figures, statistical description and analysis.

Discussion & Conclusion

What does it mean? In this section you explain the overall outcome of your study. You should compare your results and if they answer your thesis question.

Reference List

This is a list of sources you used in your paper. It is important that items follow the APA Harvard system and are arranged alphabetically by the author surname. https://ju.se/library/search--write/citing-sources---how-to-create-literature-references/apa-harvard/the-reference-list.html
