Assignment 2
Unit Lesson
The future of public administration will be impacted by several trends that will create an explosion of new knowledge and technological innovations, especially in the fields of genetics, automation, and information sciences. There are both pros and cons dealing with these advancements. Public administrators will have to learn how to use these advanced technologies and how they are going to impact the organization’s business adventures. In essence, whatever is being learned here and now will be out of date within six months. There will be a need to update continually in an effort to stay contemporary with issues and developments that may assist in moving the organization forward. There is a great temptation to be captured in the venues of the technological advancements that have been made; however, remaining with both feet on the ground will be imperative to learning the basics surrounding the organization. Technological advancements are good, but being able to relate to people face-to-face will still be influential in making good business transactions. Another change that will internationally significant will be knowledge. The key to international success and business strategies will be to have strong knowledge of economies, technological advancements, and the ability to deal with the common markets for turning a profit where applicable. The fact remains that there will be so much information that will be made available, that there will need to be someone to maintain this knowledge base. How many people are going to be available for maintaining and updating records, keeping up with the technology, and then work the changes into the organization? The next phase of public administration will be dealing with the globalization of markets and working alongside one another with different thoughts and ideas concerning how public organizations should be working together.
The sense of globalization will continue to increase more in the next few decades. Businesses and governments will have to learn to work in an integrated manner in order to create policies, products, and work in the negotiation phases. As this integration occurs, there will be a continual need for both entities working together and they will eventually blend together in an effort to maximize time, efficiency in the overall schematics of doing business. Government and businesses may indeed eventually merge and become one conglomeration working towards a common goal and having the same types of policies for the rules; this integration will blur or minimize the two separate entities working in different directions. Thus, government and businesses will be required to work alongside one another. The public and private entities will eventually merge and be required to work together making one form of policy. Eventually, society as a whole will be interacting in different ways regarding business, technology, and international relationships.
One area of change is the blend that will occur internationally. Public policymakers and public administrators will have to define exactly the roles regarding this new collaborative effort globally. It might be quite possible there is a reinvention of government standards globally in the way leaders, administrators, and businesses will connect and form partnerships nationally and internationally. Government agencies and public administrators will come to realize there is much to learn regarding diversity, working together on projects. Public managers of the future will have to learn and be adept at the new “style” and form of performing managerial decisions within their organizations. Some of the upcoming changes may include a shift in focus from internal (dealing with success issues inside of an organization) to external (dealing with citizens, customer service, and addressing the needs of the community). Economic conditions indicate globally there is a lack of faith and trust in governments from all countries.
However, this trust can be renewed through renovations, building relationships with the citizens once again, and restructuring some of the older issues that have public administrators and policy-makers concerned for future funding. Public administrators working with the external issues of social change will be influential by becoming brokers, reconcilers, negotiators, and dealing with conflict resolution in the new world of public policy and administration.
