Abstract
After the approval of the company’s proposal, Kletzka Construction renovated a bathroom for the Bergmans’ household in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Master Carpenter’s Assistant interviewed the two homeowners to compile a list of their wants and needs for the bathroom and researched options available to them. The Assistant took measurements of the bathroom and completed a floor plan for the final design of the 5’ x 6’ bathroom with a 36” vanity and 18” upper cabinet. Drywall repair and wall paint were included in the design. The team implemented the design and to date has nearly completed the renovation. The renovation provides room to store the family’s toiletries and children’s bath toys. The cost of materials was $576.00 and the cost of labor was $1,440.00 for 16 hours of work. The total cost for this project was $2,016.00.

Executive Summary
Background One month ago, Mr. Bergman approved Kletzka Construction’s proposal to renovate the main bathroom for his household in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This home was built in the 1950’s and purchased by the Bergman family in 2011. Since the purchase in 2011, no remodeling has been done in the home. As assistant to the master carpenter, Mr. MacKay interviewed Mr. and Mrs. Bergman to compile their wants and needs for the bathroom as well as the financial allowance for the renovation. Mr. and Mrs. Bergman wanted an updated bathroom with additional storage space, drywall repairs, and new paint. With this information, Mr. MacKay designed a floor plan to meet the needs of the Bergman family within their budget of roughly $2,000.00, and the team at Kletzka Construction worked to complete the renovation.
Benefits The benefits of the Ann Arbor bathroom renovation include:
• Increased property value • Enhanced interior aesthetics • Increased safety for children • Functional modern design
Cost The cost of materials was $576.00 and the cost of labor was $1,440.00 for 16 hours of work. The total cost for this project was $2,016.00.
Recommendations Due to the many benefits that will come from the bathroom renovation, Kletzka Construction recommends that the Bergmans:
• Allow the company to complete the renovation (delayed due to the family’s travel) • Provide upkeep on the newly renovated bathroom • Continue a modern theme with future renovations throughout the home • Invest in quality cabinets and vanities in the future • Contact Kletzka Construction with further questions or concerns
Included in the following report on the renovation of the bathroom for the Bergman household are the methods of design, the schedule, a cost analysis, and recommendations.

Introduction
Background Mr. and Mrs. Bergman moved into their 1400 square foot house in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2011. No renovations had been done to the home since the Bergmans’ move-in nearly six years ago. The Bergmans welcomed two daughters to their family since the purchase of their home and no longer had the space to accommodate all of the family’s toiletries and baby toys. The lack of space was causing clutter in their bathroom and throughout the house. Mr. and Mrs. Bergman wanted to renovate their main bathroom yet lacked the required skills and time to complete the renovation themselves (J. Bergman, personal interview, March 23, 2017). Mr. Bergman approved Kletzka Construction’s proposal to renovate their main bathroom in their home in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Kletzka Construction prepared a design which featured the addition of an 18” upper cabinet and a 36” vanity to supply the needed space for the family’s toiletries and children’s toys (floor plan in Figure 1 on page 6) and worked to complete the renovation. Goals While planning for and completing the bathroom renovation for the Bergman home, Kletzka Construction sought to:
• Minimize costs • Provide functional storage space • Install a new sink and faucet • Modernize the style • Choose paint schemes to complement cabinetry and flooring

Advantages Keeping the previous goals in mind, Kletzka Construction worked to complete a renovation with the following benefits:
• Increased safety for children • Functional modern design with vanity, cabinet, and updated sink and faucet • Affordable pricing of vanity tops and cabinets • Extra storage with no foot space cost (due to location of upper hanging cabinet)
The following report on the renovation of the bathroom for the Bergman household includes the design, the schedule, a cost analysis, and recommendations.

Technical Discussion
Method The Ann Arbor bathroom renovation was split into two phases: pre-renovation and implementation (renovation). Pre-Renovation: To prepare for the renovation of the Bergmans’ bathroom, the team at Kletzka Construction:
• Interviewed the homeowners to identify their needs and found that they needed extra storage space, an updated modern design, drywall repair, and paint to complement the added units.
• Took measurements of the bathroom to determine the proper dimensions for the vanity and upper cabinet.
• Prepared a floor plan of the main bathroom (Figure 1 on page 6). • Created a table of equipment needed for the renovation (Table 1 on page 4). • Created a detailed schedule for the timeframe of the renovation (Table 2 on page
4). • Compiled a cost breakdown for the materials and labor (Table 3 on page 5).
Renovation: Upon completion of the preparation and planning phase, the team at Kletzka Construction’s next phase was to go to the Bergmans’ home to:
• Remove the bathroom vanity and cabinets. • Remove all wallpaper from bathroom walls. • Clean wallpaper residue from walls. • Repair damaged drywall. • Paint bathroom walls. • Install a new vanity and over-the-toilet cabinet. • Clean up.

Results The renovation was postponed due to the request of the homeowners. The original projected timeframe would have allowed for the renovation to be completed on April 12. Due to the family’s vacation plan, the renovation will continue on May 1 and be completed the following day. The finished renovation will include a 36” vanity with a new countertop and faucet. An 18” upper cabinet will be hung above the toilet and a medicine cabinet on the left side of the vanity (cabinet and vanity options are pictured in Figures 2-5 on page 7). See Figure 1 below for the floor plan.
