"Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6. We may say this scripture and we may even recite this scripture to ourselves until we turn blue. Until we believe this to be true, this will not be so. As leaders training up leaders, we must understand that; "Just because plant a seed today, does not mean you will receive the fruit the next day". Elmore stated "The best time to plant a tree is....twenty years ago. The second best time is...now."(Elmore,T. 2015) Again we must understand as a leader, to develop good leaders. We should consider working with them to develop strong personal values. They're a lot of ways to install strong values in these up and coming leaders. One of the best ways is to develop a program to mentor them and teach them how to leaders. Leaders are not born, they are raised and groomed from previous leaders. In doing this we as leaders we will be teaching and helping them learn to make and keep short-term commitments. As older leaders teaching the future leaders we have to make sure we teach them to make realistic goals. In doing so, they will not make unrealistic goals. This goals back to mentoring them, when you mentor the youth. We can use this time to let them know that committing to a team of some sort will help develop them into a great leader. Working with them to simplify their lives and deal with stress. As leader we must understand the situation of todays stressors. Leaders must know how to teach the future leaders how to deal situations that will make them or put them in difficult situations. As todays youth has a lot of stressful issues, we as leaders grooming them must keep this in mind and teach them that they are the future and they will be the next President, the next CEO, the next Commandant, and most importantly the next leaders at church. In all of these launching tools, as a leader we have to help them to focus. The biggest problem with todays generation, is that they are not focused and do not understand the seriousness of being focused. Everything that was stated is very important and will be need from a current leader to teach a future leader and future to learn. Along with these things, a future leader must understand that these things can and will be used within sport. As they utilize them in sport they must understand and know how to focus, and utilize in their walk with the lord. In this instance this is where the current leader plays a big role in the future leaders developing "The Focusing" stage.

Developing leaders is a tough job. Tim Elmore brings up a few good points in his book Generation iY about "launching leaders" . Future leaders need help to get going in their call, and just like civilization and humanity in general , the future, is built off the shoulders of the past. If we were given a duty to help the next generation succeed I think I would implement a few strategies:

Build character. Do things that build character. If you lack in patience, put yourself in situations where you need to be patient and learn to be ok with the wait. Ray Lewis , an ex- Baltimore Raven used to do things he didn't like doing to strategically build discipline in his life. He did chores he hated even when he didn't need to do them because he wanted to build a strong work ethic and toughness. This discipline carried on to the gym and field where he worked hard and was very tough mentally.

Master the fundamentals. Young people get excited about the end before they have mastered the fundamentals. The small steps and foundation of skills is the starting pad to launches leaders to the big time. A friend of mine was a local skateboarding legend. He was the best in the city and worked hard on his skills. He could do some really spectacular gravity defying tricks. He once told me that the ollie (basic jump) was his best trick. I thought that was odd. He explained further that any trick in skateboarding starts with the ollie. It is often overlooked and small but is the foundation for any trick. The fundamentals are important.

Help them to focus is something Elmore talks about. In a fast paced world it is easy to lose focus. I agree with Elmore that we need to help young people focus. I think that part of that not giving too many tasks and giving clear expectations. Expectations are very important. I think giving clear expectations is very important to helping young people focus.

Accept ambiguity. In a world that is changing faster than anytime ever, I think the acceptance of ambiguity is important. Accepting the unknown isn't easy, but I think that a open mind and acceptance with not knowing is ok.

Be humble. Humility takes us a long way. Humility helps us open doors and give good impressions. Do what you need to do and be humble and people will notice. Never feel you deserve something but always be grateful. People will notice and elevate you. People help and care for people they like . Humility opens up doors. Pride closes them.

Value a team. Teams working in unity are powerful. A good team is much more powerful than one person working at their best. Believe in others and also believe in your role in the team. Allow yourself to be interdependent within the team and also work in a way that others can depend on.

Focus on the long game. Focus on the long goal and remind yourself always, it helps us point back to what we should be doing today to get there. What is my legacy? What is the small step to take today that is a step toward that goal? These are the questions we should think about.

Be strategic. Plan to win . Hope is good but it is not a strategy . Write your ideas often and organize them.

Build up others. Leaders build leaders. Embody what you preach.

Have fun. Enjoy what you do. Live an adventure and don't limit yourself.
