I. Community Need
Describe the community need in your local community or community of your choice and explain why you chose this issue. The community need that I have chosen to focus and conduct research on within my hometown is drug abuse and the success of treatment. As we all may safely assume, drug abuse is an individual issue; however, it can become a community issue when you influence a large percentage of the population. In my hometown county, the illegal production, abuse, consumption, and overdose of drugs have recently become a significant issue. This is affecting businesses, education, crime rates, employment rates, etc. Many residents are beginning to question their safety, health, and well-being. What once was a small quiet town is quickly turning into mayhem. I want to research this issue to assess the current status and potential projections of my drug issue in my community. I would also like to analyze how the government has assisted in combatting such abuse and promoting treatment. Comprehending the overarching drug abuse issue and how effective current programs will assist me with potential missed or feeble solutions. The data that will be taken will be used for the creation of new solutions. This could mean simply increasing awareness or increasing drug abuse prevention programs.
II. Credibility
I will be using a plethora of sources to include The Clermont County Opiate Task Force/Get Clean Now Clermont, The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), The Coalition for a Drug-Free Clermont County, and Clermont County Mental Health & Recovery Board. These creditable sources have information provided by Government organizations. The Coalition for a Drug-Free Clermont County and The Clermont County Opiate Task Force/ Get Clean Now are not government organizations. Instead, they specialize in substance abuse and treatment. The NIDA offers an abundant amount of information on how drug abuse impacts the nation. The sources noted above to serve the essential purpose of keeping the public up to date with the latest unbiased information regarding drug abuse. The Coalition for a Drug-Free Clermont County and The Clermont County Opiate Task Force/ Get Clean Now also play an essential role. They are not government organizations, but they work closely with the government to develop effective ways to combat drug abuse.
III. Applicability
These sources focus on local and national issues and provide a broad perspective on drug abuse and treatment. This information can be used to produce numerous data. This data could determine the level and severity of the drug issue within my hometown community. It could also determine danger to the public, risk factors, and how fast drug abuse is growing in the community and the nation. The NIDA can provide a more in-depth analysis of drug abuse, such as the different types of drugs and different treatment options. The Clermont County Opiate Task Force provides an overabundance of resources for not only the addicts but also the family members. Combining all the sources will assist me with gaining a better understanding of how the government and local community is combating drug abuse and treatment options and if they are successful.
