A Regulatory Comparison of Two Financial Holding Companies—Virginia National Bankshares Corp and Old Point Financial Corp.

Purpose of Analysis: To identify which firm exposes the FDIC to the greatest risk. Scenario: The FDIC is deciding where to send an available team of examiners. They should be sent to the BHC with the greater risk of losses and the higher probability of requiring the FDIC’s assistance. This is an executive report that should focus on presenting the data and conclusions in a manner that allows higher management at the FDIC to efficiently grasp your conclusions. Effective use of Tables, Lists, Graphics and Appendices should support highlighted Conclusions.

Methodology: Comprehensive analysis of risk and return using the structure of individual assignments, but with a focus on the comparison of the two institutions and their changes over time. You have been given a template with the financial data provided.

Note: All Tables, Graphics, and Discussions must be oriented to the comparison of the two institutions.

I. Title Page with Names of Bank Holding Companies and Names of Students preparing project.

III. Introduction (Includes a discussion of the CAMELS rating system and the two bank holding companies which are the focus of this report.

IV. Capital Adequacy (Assignment 4)

V. Asset Quality. (This would include a comparison of the Uses of Funds (Assignment 2) with a Focus on Loan Portfolios and their Risk Exposure (Assignment 7)

VI. Management (The capabilities of the board of directors and management to identify, measure, monitor, and control the risks of an institution’s activities. )

VII. Earnings (Focus on Profitability and Changes in Profits (Assignment 3)

VIII. Liquidity Risk (Include an analysis of the Liquidity Indicators) (Assignment 5)
