FINALPAPERS.pdf

Final paper

Assigned Papers should be presented using the double-spaced, 12-point type, Times New Roman using

1” margins. Please put your name and page number in the header of each page. Appropriate citations of

sources are required. You may insert citations and notations parenthetically into the text; include a

bibliography for any works-cited that are not assigned books. Professional communication will be part of

the grading rubric for all written assignments (i.e., style, standard grammar, spelling, punctuation,

complete sentences, and thorough proof-reading). The “Bible” should be capitalized as the standard for

this class.

Part A. Final paper described.

Each student will prepare a major paper on administrative and/or leadership topic selected by the student,

or on another substantial administrative, systemic, adaptive challenge negotiated with the instructor. The

paper length will be in the range of 13 pages. (Suggested page lengths are listed next to each section of

the assignment found below as a guide). It is intended that this assignment will provide each student an

opportunity to:

• work on a current issue within your congregation; an area of perceived weakness in knowledge, skills, or experience; or on a complex challenge of particular interest;

• synthesize and build upon materials covered/presented in this introductory course on church administration; and

• develop a sound action plan for the next steps in working on this challenge.

“Special Topic in Local Church Administration” Assignment

Challenges to and Strategies for Developing Mature Spiritual Leaders for a Mission-focused Church.

(Staff and/or lay leadership development)

Student’s Presenting Problem:

I realized that most of the people in leadership at the Caring Believer Bible Fellowship that I go to lack

the leadership skills and education for church leadership. Their responses and actions in leading the

church are far below expectation and, most times, questionable. This has encouraged me to

research “Challenges to and Strategies for Developing Mature Spiritual Leaders for a Mission-focused

Church. (Staff and lay leadership development).”

THE PAPER SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS,

WRITTEN IN THIS ORDER, AND WITH IDENTIFYING HEADINGS:

1. Presenting Problem. A definition/description of the presenting problem as you initially see it.

(About 1 page in length.)

2. What is at stake? A statement explaining why this as a critical problem worthy of exploration.

For example, what is at stake for the congregation you serve, your ministry, the future of “the

church,” etc.? (About 1 page in length.)

3. Research Summary. Offer a summary of research and/or resources you consulted to explore

this topic. This may include persons having expertise with whom you had significant

conversation. You may use any resources accumulated during this course or sources found

elsewhere. Please focus on the most pertinent research that you found helpful in understanding

the presenting problem and moving toward possible interventions. Remember, to use appropriate

citations for all work that is not your own. (About 5 to 6 pages in length.)

4. So What? This section begins the process of synthesizing your research, articulating your best

thinking, and moving toward action steps. The following questions should be woven into your

paper:

• How has the research/conversation reshaped your questions or burning concerns?

• What are the multiple layers of complexity that you are now able to articulate?

• What remedies are worth pursuing?

• What realistic next steps would you take? (About 4-5 pages in length.) (continued)

5. Summary of Learning. What have you learned as a result of this project? (About 1 page in

length.).

Part B: In-Class Report

The three Zoom class sessions will be allocated to hearing brief verbal summaries of each student’s paper

as a way of extending learning for all (approximately 15 minutes each). The instructor will develop and

communicate a schedule for the brief presentations.

NOTE: Your paper will likely be at “in-progress” status at the time of your presentation. It is expected

that feedback from the in-class presentation will strengthen your final product.

In-Class presentation is dued at midnight on March 22, 2022

Part C. Final Paper Due Date.

The final assignment deadline is midnight on March 25, 2022. See Part A above for outline

of topics to be covered in the final report.
