Integrative Field Seminar - SOCW 4353

Agency Macro Project Assignment

The project proposal which you will be designing will provide an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in the classroom that address client services, resources in any given agency or in the community. You are to demonstrate your ability to apply theory and skills in the field by engaging in and reporting on an area of client/agency need you have identified in your field practicum and design a project proposal which will enhance services to the population your field agency serves.

It must be realistic. If applicable explore funding opportunities which can aid in implementation of your project.

NOTE: Do not submit any requests for funding to potential funders as this is only for a learning exercise. Do show your findings to your field instructor as they may want to submit request for proposals through approval of their agency.

Identifying the project:

1. As you begin to integrate into your field placement you will identify an area of needed change relating to the focus of the agency/population it serves. You will discuss your idea with your field instructor to ensure this project is a.) appropriate to the agency’s purpose and b.) has real value to the agency.

2. While your project may not be implemented in your field setting, you will design it as if it will be. What this means is that the need identified is impacting the agency or population it serves and the steps you take to design the program, if it were to be implemented, would improve/create a service to the population the field agency serves or the agency itself.

Organizing your proposal

You will need to consult with your respective agency to determine if they have their own requirements, there are several components of a proposal that are fairly standard, and they often come in the following order:

· Title page

· Summary of proposal

· List of Potential Funders

· Needs/Problem Statement(statement of the problem, purpose of research or goals, and significance of research)

· Project narrative (list goals, objectives, project activities and evaluation)

· Budget Summary (include personnel and costs)

· Itemized budget

Format the proposal so that it is easy to read. Use headings to break the proposal up into sections. If it is long, include a table of contents with page numbers.

Title page: The title page will include the following:

Proposal: $50 Enrollment Fee Proposal

Name: Dayna Cazares

Agency: Weslaco Police Department First-time Offender Program

Date: November 24, 2019

Funding Requested: None

Summary of proposal (ABSTRACT): The abstract provides potential funders with their first impression of your project. To remind themselves of your proposal, they may glance at your abstract when making their final recommendations, so it may also serve as their last impression of your project. The abstract should explain the key elements of your research project in the future tense. Most abstracts state the following:

(1) The general purpose: Gain funding for the program in the form of $50 enrollment fee. ($25 intake, $25 Session fee)

(2) Specific goals: Gain program commitment and accountability from youth and parent(s), program enhancements, and will help fund clients and their families resourceful and basic needs.

(3) Research design: Research (3) articles that target why a fee for this kind of program is a worthwhile proposal.

(4) Outcome of the project: Proposal has not been proposed yet but will be after this assignment is submitted. Therefore, you will include in this section what I believe the outcome will be. The Weslaco Chief of Police will accept the enrollment fee (in your words).

List of Potential Funders : Since this proposal isn’t requesting any agency funding you will explain that the program is trying to sustain itself through the fee proposal.

Need/Problem Statement: You will need to cover the following key elements of your proposal:

Statement of the problem: Lack of accountability and commitment from the youth and parent(s) to the successful completion of the program, Lack of funds for program effectiveness.

(The statement of problem should provide a background and rationale for the project).

The research you utilize needs to reflect why the project would benefit the program.

Who identified the problem? Dayna Cazares Intern with Weslaco Police Department First-time Offender Program.

What are other’s perceptions of the problem?

Who is suffering? The program with the lack of funds

Who is concerned? Case Manager: Maritza Lara and Intern: Dayna Cazares

What tools did you use to gather the information? Observation of the program during internship.

Project narrative: The project narrative provides the meat of your proposal and may require several subsections. The project narrative should supply all the details of the project, including:

Goals: Gain commitment and accountability from youth and parent(s)/legal guardians due to

· Failure to attend sessions

· Failure to check-in with Caseworker on a weekly basis

· Failure to attend school regularly

Gain funding (re-word)

· Group work youth/parent hands on materials

· Program distribution materials (Flyers, brochures, etc.)

· Client service assistance based on needs (Food, clothing, school supplies, transportation, gas, monies for counseling services etc.)

Objectives: (Include objectives)

Outcome: Approval from Weslaco Police Department Chief of Police

Evaluation: Pre-test/Post-test will be the evaluation tool used…explain how

Recommendations: Implement form for fee enrollment (included in power point)

Be sure to include whether the goals and objectives are effective based on the research/theory you found. Was the project intervention effective: The fee is the intervention and if not, why not? Include your assessment as to why you feel they work or why they don’t/ or wouldn’t work.

Budget/Personnel: Explain staffing requirements in detail and make sure that staffing makes sense. You will need to consider including present agency staff along with new personnel. Explain the necessary skill sets and functions of personnel you will recruit.

Who will collect the money?: Maritza Lara (program case manager) at every successful intake. Form of agreement to pay will be implemented, receipt of payment will be given.

How will it be managed: Weslaco Police Department Chief of Police will open an account specifically for the First-time Offender Program.

Process: Maritza Lara receives and deposits into account after every intake.

Itemized Budget: The budget individually lists the project costs and usually consists of a spreadsheet or table with the budget detailed as line items and a budget narrative that explains the various expenses.

Informational Brochures: Paper and ink

Session Materials: Paper, activities, etc.

Hired Personal:

· 128 Hrs. Sessions

· 20 Hrs. Intake

________________________

Total Hrs. Monthly: 148 Hrs.

Reflection Section : Analyze the extent and depth of the competencies as demonstrated in this project.

Social work competencies: (will attach competencies and examples) The ones that are highlighted I believe are the competencies I used. Please add more if you see they fit in to the project.

How well did you incorporate curriculum theory and specific concepts into your project and report?

Describe any obstacles encountered while carrying out your project: Due to the lack of effort in the Chief of Police meeting with me to present proposal shows his lack of care (re-word).

Give attention to feelings and reactions (yours and those of others)

Your paper must be a minimum of 8 and not to exceed 10 pages. It must be typed, double-spaced and cited appropriately to reflect your research sources. You will need at least 3 research sources and must be cited APA style.
