Criminology and Theories of Crime

Case Study-

Your final writing assignment in this class will be to conduct a case study about an individual convicted of a crime (or a series of crimes), learning everything you can about that individual and their life history. You will then write a 10–12-page paper describing the history of this individual and discussing what criminological theory or theories might best explain the criminal behavior of that individual. You are required to draw significantly on course material in your theoretical analysis.

•A one-page overview of the individual you selected and what theories you plan to apply to this individual’s life history is due on Sunday, October 17 by 11:59 pm EST.

•Your completed paper is due on the final day of our class. It will be graded on the basis of several criteria, including mechanics and organization; documentation of historical information about your chosen individual; application and understanding of criminological theories; utilization of appropriate reference materials; and creativity. Papers should be a minimum of 10 pages long (double-spaced) and must be in APA format including a cover page and “works cited” pages which do not count toward the page requirement. The assignment is worth 100 points and must be uploaded into Blackboard by 11:59 pm EST on the due date. I will post a grading rubric which will be used to assign points to this final assignment in the class.
