Human-caused Climate Change
Cause
• “Greenhouse effect” • Nitrous oxide • Water vapor • Methane
Human activity is changing the natural greenhouse
Effect
• More droughts and heat waves • Sea level will rise • Changes in precipitation patterns • Temperatures will continue to rise
Why it Matters
1. Wildfires cause damage to our landscapes, communities and health
2. Diseases are spreading more easily 3. Longer allergy seasons 4. Foods become less nutritious and
cost more 5. Animal extinction
Fight Climate Change
• Purpose: Non-profit organization will partner with schools from grades K-12 and create curriculum and training programs on controlling climate change. Through education, our organization will equip the youth to react and take action in saving the planet.
Why educate the youth?
1. Critical and creative thinking skills are enhanced - students will make their own decisions about environment issues through research and investigation
2. Healthy lifestyles are encourage - students are encouraged to explore nature and be outside and practice habits that will benefit the planet such as minimizing waste, etc.
3. Responsible action is taken - students will be educated on things affecting the environment and resources will be shared in order to take action
4. Communities are strengthened - students will have a sense of place through community involvement
Fight Climate Change - Goal
• Within 3 years of launching the program, 25% of K-12 students in California will participate in our program and 100% of those participants are enrolled in conservation community groups.
Programs
Based on 5 emission factors
1. Built environment and transportation 2. Energy 3. Solid Waste 4. Water and wastewater 5. Agriculture and conservation

Lessons Learned What worked well:
- MS Projects provides great tools to track actual costs versus the budget. For a new non-profit company like Fight Climate Change, MS
Projects helped us align on our expenses by identifying areas early in the project that were outside the budget.
- The various stakeholders that we collaborated with were responsive to the goal of Fight Climate and offered additional help. This
enabled us to complete the project on time and make the program as successful as it could be.
- The creation of the RACI chart helps to identify and solidify the responsibilities of each role. In a new non- profit company like Fight
Climate Change with a unique vision it's extremely important to have a strong foundation to ensure completion of the project.
- Stakeholder analysis as well as communication plan made the project flow with ease considering the communication methods were
all laid out.
What can be improved:
- The timeline could have been too ambitious for the team to pursue. In the beginning of the project, we had hoped to go-live with
Fight Climate Change within 4 months. However, after discovering the amount of work needed, and the amount of time that is
dedicated to working with school districts, a 10 or 12 month timeframe would have been more ideal, especially if the team was
seeking a work-life balance.
- If we wanted to go by the original timeline, it would have been better to have more face to face interaction as well as hands-on
experiences with our “product”
Conclusion
• We believe in Fight Climate Change. The youth must take necessary action to better the environment

THAT WE, YOUNG PEOPLE,
ARE UNSTOPPABLE."
