After reading the information below, please let me know if you would like to revise your submission.

I always allow students one teaching opportunity and you may want to consider making the revisions to achieve higher points. If you are interested in revising your submission, please email me and we can work on a timeframe for the resubmission.

Also, if you elect to revise this submission, please use the Template provided in the assignment prompt. Please note that you are not required to revise this submission, but I wanted to offer you this option, if you were interested.

Before I provide information on your paper, please allow me to share that you write very well and your content is solid so that is a huge advantage compared to others that may struggle with writing. The key concern relates to excluding scholarly evidence to support your statements, comments, and information.

I have attached some feedback in your submission, but the focus should be on providing evidence. Below is an overview of some feedback, followed by the primary concern of scholarly support:

The Section 1 for Week 2 and Week 3 content should be revised to focus on one type facility/setting/service as defined within the template. Example: Selection 1 Week 2 could be a SNF. Then, all the questions asked within the first table would specifically address SNFs such as the demographics, financial options, etc.

Section 2 is well-defined from the content aspect standpoint so the primary focus for this section of the report would be the scholarly evidence.

Section 3 is inaccurate. Section three should be based on the AIT rotations from this course as described within each weekly AIT rotation letter. The information you provided was thoughtful but not related to this course. The content for Section 3 would need to be revised and scholarly support would be to be provided.

Please do not confuse the concepts below, as providing evidence and APA as these are two separate concepts.

Failing to include in-text citations impacts several content areas of the grading rubric and is also considered a major deviation for APA. First, the application of concept and development and critical thinking aspects are focused on providing evidence from the readings or scholarly materials to support your statements. Providing evidence through scholarly support is critical in academic writing.

The expectation is to ensure sufficient scholarly support is provided throughout the submission and failing to include in-text citations impacts almost every area of the grading rubric. I encourage you to review the resources provided and should you need additional assistance with this aspect of writing, then please consider reaching out to the Writing Center. However, since your writing is positive, I do not feel that is necessary, but they are available should you need them. I have also included a document with additional details that you may find helpful in the writing process.

If you can apply scholarly and credible evidence into your writing through the use of in-text citations, then you should be fine. When you write, look for credible sources that support your comments. Then, use that reference to support your statements. Please remember that every reference requires an in-text citation. The references, under the form on in-text citations, indicate how a student obtained their information, provides credibility to the submission, and upholds academic integrity, reducing the possibility of plagiarism by including the citation.

Last but not least, if you elect to conduct the revision, please ensure that each view from a consumer or administrator includes scholarly support. Your information and reasoning were nicely conveyed for Section 2. While some of these questions were asking for a preference or a consumer’s view, it is also important to still provide scholarly support to validate your comments. This type of writing is called persuasive writing in the academic environment. Providing your sources of information to validate your thinking from a professional lens and academic voice can be achieved through the references that you include as in-text citations. Please remember this is not about using APA formatting or APA requirements, but about ensuring you convey to the reader why you believe something to be true based on facts, figures, and information you researched.

When you are writing on a persuasive topic that is asking for your view of the information, based on your research and knowledge, seek sources that support your comments. Think something like this…What did your research say about this topic? What did you read or watch about this topic? What did you read or watch that can support your thinking? What professional websites support my ideas? Identify references or sources through the course content materials, the UMGC Library, or professional online publications. This approach can help convey that your comments and thoughts are supported by the industry; or supported through other aspects such as best practices, statistics, details, and similar information.

While persuasive writing is part of the academic experience, this concept can be applied in the real world as well, by looking at this information through the lens of recommendations as a manager in your professional career; or for validating your reasoning on why you may think something; or  why you elect to conduct a practice a certain way in your career. The professional environment does not require us to use APA formatting like the academic environment. However, when you make recommendations, or try to persuade someone like a manager (or an entire organization from a senior-level perspective), to change practices or something similar in your role, support your information with industry best practices and resources to help them in informed decision making. Demonstrate that your thinking is valid and supported within your field, as this type of approach can allow you to be seen as an industry leader, or expert in your field, since you support your ideas with proof or evidence. As a president and CEO in my current role and as having been a manager for a couple decades, I am more likely to accept, or try, one of my leaders’ recommendations, when they provide evidence versus simply sharing their perspective.
