Assessment title:

Presentation

Module Name:

Extended Project

Module Code:

FC300

Tutor’s Name:

Assessment will be set in:

Week 1

Assessment is due in:

TBC (see Module Information)

Assessment weighting:

40%

Assessment Task Instructions:

Core Task:

You are required to plan and prepare a 10-minute formal presentation for your classmates and your module tutor about the Extended Project you have been working on in this module. The aim of this presentation is to provide your audience with key information about this project (i.e. what the aims of the project were, what research you have undertaken, what your key findings are), and to reflect on what you have learned through working on it, including challenges you faced and how you have overcome them.

Example Structure:

Your presentation should follow a logical structure, as shown in the example below:

Research Topic: e.g. How significant is the threat of antibiotic resistance to society?

Introduction:

Why did you choose this topic?

What were some of the initial challenges with this project?

Research Questions:

How did you decide on the direction of your research?

Which questions were you trying to answer in your project?

Research process:

How did you look for sources?

What kind of sources could you find?

Which sources were particularly useful?

What did you find difficult about finding and reading sources?

Findings:

What were your main findings? Provide evidence and citations.

Are there any implications for further research in this area?

Reflection:

What was your experience on this course and what did you enjoy or didn’t enjoy about your work on this project?

Which skills have you learnt? Which skills will be useful for you when you start your university course?

Is there anything you would have done differently, given what you now know?

What kind of feedback did you get from your teacher during the process? How did you act on this?

References:

List the sources you referred to in your presentation here

Theory and/or task resources required for the assessment:

You are reporting the findings of your research for the written report. So, part of this presentation is a summary of the work you did for your report. The other part of this is you reflecting on your experience on the course. If you keep a learning log throughout the course, this part of the presentation will be much easier for you because you have a record of what you did at different stages, and how you felt during the process. You can refer to this in your presentation.

Assessment reference style:

You must conform to APA referencing conventions and include a reference list at the end of your presentation.

Expected time:

10 minutes with an extra 2 minutes for questions. If you speak for too long or not long enough, you might lose marks (so make sure you practise so you can keep within the time limit).

Module Outcomes Assessed:

The following module outcomes are assessed in this task:

· Find, select and use appropriate and reliable sources to inform research and accurately observe referencing conventions

· Make a short oral presentation to peers about their extended project and respond appropriately and clearly to questions

· Present project outcomes effectively in writing and verbally, complying with academic convention for the genre and using appropriate linguistic register and subject-specific language

Submission Requirements:

You must submit visual materials you intend to use for the presentation, e.g. PowerPoint slides or Prezi, via Turnitin before you present. Your submission must meet the following requirements:

Include an appropriate header at the top of each slide

Include a title slide with the following information:

Module Code (e.g. FC300C)

Class/Group (e.g. Group A)

Module Title (e.g. Extended Project)

Assessment Type (e.g. Extended Project Presentation)

Module Tutor Name

Student ID Number

Date of Submission

Word count

Use APA referencing conventions throughout your presentation

On the day of the assessment, you will give your presentation via video conferencing software (e.g. Zoom) at the timeslot allocated to you.

If you do not submit your visual materials by the deadline you may lose marks, or your presentation may not be accepted.

Assessment Mark:

The following criteria will be used to evaluate your presentation:

Quality of Reflection (25%): How well did you describe your research project? Did you explain what was enjoyable/challenging and show that you have reflected on your experience? Is it clear for the audience to see what you have learnt from doing this project?

Structure (20%) : How well did you organise information in your presentation? Was it well divided into clear sections and did the points progress and flow in a clear direction? Did you use signposting to help the audience follow your points?

Support (25%) : How much evidence did you provide for your claims? Are your sources accurately referenced in a reference list and cited verbally? Did your visual materials support your points and/or make your presentation more interesting and engaging for the audience?

Delivery (15%) :Did you speak clearly, naturally and at the right volume and tempo? Did you handle the questions from the audience confidently? Did you provide clear answers?

Audience Engagement (15%) : Were your points easy for the audience to understand? Did you engage with the audience to ensure they are interested and following your points?

Assessment Feedback:

Your tutor will mark the assessment by reviewing your visual materials and evaluating your delivery on the day and you will receive feedback and grade on the Turnitin Plugin on the VLE.
