A3 | Undergraduate students that complete a qualifying degree program with a qualifying cumulative GPA (grade point average) are recognized by graduating cum laude, magna cum laude, or summa cum laude. The requirements are as follows:

· Cum laude - cumulative GPA of 3.5 to 3.69

See the Undergraduate Honor Citation section in the Strayer University 2019-2020 Catalog for additional details.

Q4 | How long does it take to complete a degree program?

A4 | The time it takes to complete a program depends on how many credits hours are needed and how many courses are completed per quarter. Each Strayer course completion provides 4.5 credit hours, and students normally complete 2-4 courses a quarter. The credit hours requirements are generally 90 credits for an associate degree, 180 credits for a bachelor’s degree, and 54 credits for a graduate degree.

Example - Time to Complete a Degree Program

Program Type

2 Courses per Qtr.

4 Courses per Qtr

Associate degree w/ 90 credit hours

10 quarters or 2.5 years

5 quarters or 1.25 years

Bachelor’s degree w/ 180 credit hours

20 quarters or 5 years

10 quarters or 2.5 years

Graduate degree w/ 54 credit hours

6 quarters or 1.5 years

3 quarters or 0.75 years

To determine the numbers of courses, quarters and years remaining in a student’s program use the following calculations:

· # of courses remaining = # of remaining credit hours required / 4.5 credit hours

· # of remaining quarters = # of courses remaining / # of courses per quarter

· # of years remaining = # of remaining quarters / # of quarters per year (4)

Completing More Than Four Courses per Quarter

Completing 5-6 courses per quarter requires a GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate programs and 3.5 for graduate programs. Completing more than 6 courses per quarter requires permissions from the campus, associate campus, advising, or program dean.

See the Quarter System , Credit Designation , Grade Point Average - Undergraduate , and Grade Point Average - Graduate sections in the Strayer University 2019-2020 Catalog for additional details.

FAQ Intended audience and purpose

The graduation requirement FAQ is targeted towards new and existing students. The audience is expected to have familiarity with earning credits through course completions to earn a college program degree, the difference between undergraduate and graduate programs, and accessing the iCampus website. The FAQ aims to summarize the detailed graduation related information in the Strayer University catalog to answer common questions a student may ask. The graduation information I thought would be frequently sought are the requirement details, an understanding of how long it can take to meet them, how to achieve cum laude recognition, and where to find personalized progress information. Each answered question also provides links to the catalog sections from which the data was summarized or technical support where iCampus is discussed. The links allow direct access to the originating source, which helps the audience if the FAQ has become outdated or full details are preferred over a summary.
