Family Assessment

Abstract

Determining the structure and style of a household is critical for patient's family care. A family interview and needs analysis provide details to establish effective care and identification of significant health challenges. The knowledge aids in the development of family-centered solutions for assistance and guidance. An individual's well-being is influential in determining how one maintains their entire personality. Analysis conducted using the relevant parameters ensures comprehensive examination, which drives further solutions. Since a functional family leads to a healthy society, the primary reason for the interview was to understand the health patterns of the participating family.

Family Assessment

The family I picked to interview has broken away from typical family structures and is doing an excellent job raising a happy and healthy family. It was a family of seven, consisting of husband and wife, four children, and the father's mother, who also lived with them. The outstanding attribute that led me to choose this family was its structure, as it is a blended family.  The husband brought two children into the household, and the wife joined with her daughter, and they went on to have a son together.

It was a Christian family of five white and two black American kids, the son and the daughter that the husband brought along with as he was married to a black woman. The two breadwinners, husband and wife, have stable, well-paying jobs, therefore, belong to the high class in the society. They have managed to establish a life in a lovely and serene setting ideal for raising their children. The grandma, who is 76 years old, looks after the children, particularly the youngest who is two years old. They also have a part-time babysitter to help with the children when the parents are at work.

The family's general health behavior may be classified as good, if not exceptional. This is due to the family's proactive commitment to health, especially to the lady in the family who is highly passionate about diet and fitness. The family's health strategy is based on the adage that prevention is better than cure. Therefore, the family's primary focus is on nourishment to improve health and avoid disease. They adhere to a highly rigid eating regimen that emphasizes healthy and organic foods with few meal options.

According to the family, this is a lifestyle that they have purposefully fostered to promote the family's well-being and instill a culture of healthy food in their children from a young age that they may carry on into adulthood. As the husband did, her mother, who also happens to be the grandmother, embraced the lifestyle in the family. According to the husband, good eating culture was highly effective in their household. A family member can influence one another into adopting certain ideas (Erdem & Safi, 2018).

According to the family, having their children embrace the culture is significant since developing an excellent dietary habit is essential though challenging in such a fast-paced society. Workout is also a necessary part of the family’s health regime. The sedentary lifestyle involving having kids spend the entire day playing video games is highly discouraged in this house.

The couples try to exercise for one hour every day, halfway in the morning and later after work. They also make an effort to include their children and grandmother on occasion. Every weekend, they schedule a family workout session to guarantee that everyone participates. Aside from that, children are encouraged to participate in outside physical activities both at home and school. The parents have made sure that the children have bikes rides at least once a week.

Their perspective about visiting a doctor for a check-up raises concern since the family believes in stepping foot in a hospital only if one of them is ill. Instead, they are more concerned with preventing themselves. The health of the family currently is excellent as all members are in good health both physically and mentally. Also, they have encountered relatively few incidents of disease in the past year.

As per functional health pattern strengths, one of their main strengths is on dietary lifestyle. They focus on leading a healthy eating lifestyle by carefully observing their food choices. The household guideline for picking the meals they consume is that they are nutritious and organic. Parents also make sure that their children rarely consume the typically processed snack, instead offering them alternatives such as fruits. The items they keep in the apartment and refrigerator, all of which are healthy selections, demonstrate the reality of their actual, more beneficial dietary practice.

Workout is their second aspect of strength. The parents are role models; the family also follows a strict workout program, which they have instilled in their children from an early age. These routines ensure that parents work out daily and that all individuals participate in a weekly workout session. Parents also insist that their kids engage in physical activity, which is essential for their development (Bento & Dias, 2017).

The first worry raised in terms of health barriers was sleep. In the same way, the parents handed down the positive culture; they also passed down some bad cultures, such as insufficient sleep. The couple often finds themselves working or stuck on their electronic devices, a habit they have transferred to their children. They agreed that they have a challenge when getting kids to bed on time, which is particularly problematic as children still have school the following day. The issue mainly results from the electronic devices available in the house that keeps them engaged until late at night (Tambalis et al., 2018).

Another issue with this family's health is that they do not appreciate doctor's appointments and rarely go for check-ups. The family is fully aware of the significance of regular medical check-ups, yet they insist on going to the hospital whenever an issue develops. Lastly, the couple itself was identified as a health concern. On a question concerning their relationship, they admitted to having open disputes and conflicts at times. According to Dinh, the conflicts affect the couple and pose a mental health issue for the children (Dinh et al., 2017).
