PRIMARY SOURCES THAT I HOPE TO USE (delete all text in red and keep the one in black)

REAL PRIMARY SOURCES

Explain what your true or real primary sources would be if you were able to travel, had archeological resources, had language abilities, and unlimited money. You can read the footnotes or endnotes of the scholarly secondary sources that you will use. This will give you many primary sources.

For Roman architecture Vitruvius's books are a primary sources. https://archive.org/details/vitruviustenbook00vitruoft/page/n4 (Links to an external site.) 1) The <insert name of the building or the city or the ensemble and delete text in red> is a true primary source. When you list your building or the city or the ensemble as the first primary source make sure you write the name, approximate date of construction, city, country. Delete text in red.

i. For example, if you are doing paper on a building, say the Pantheon that still exists, you will write “The Pantheon building, built in 126 CE in Rome, Italy, itself is a true primary source.”

ii. If you are writing a paper on a city, say Rome that still exists, then the you will write, “The city of Rome, founded in 753 CE in modern day Italy itself is a true primary source.”

iii. If you are writing a paper on a city that does not exist anymore, say Çatalhüyük, that has only archeological remains left, then you will write, “The archeological remains of the city of Çatalhüyük – a tentatively dated to about 6700 BCE and the latest to about 5650 BCE located in present day south-central Turkey – are a true primary source.”

iv. If you are writing a paper on an ensemble, say the Agora of Athens, that does not exist anymore and has only archeological remains left, then you will write, “The archeological remains of the Greek agora of Athens, built from 6th century BCE to 5th–4th century BCE located in Athens Greece, are a true primary source.

2) In case of city building or the city or the ensemble, which has significant architectural and urban form that exists, you will write – Drawings such as plans, elevations, sections, and sketches made much after the <insert name of the building or the city or the ensemble and delete text in red> was constructed. Add a statement that clarifies that Although these drawings were made by other people and several centuries after the construction of the <insert name of the building or the city or the ensemble and delete text in red>, this is truly speaking not a primary source, I am using it as a primary source because I am not able to travel and access true primary sources. (Delete all text in red and keep the one in black).
