Select an article from the literature that describes a health intervention using a theory. Review the paper as follows:

Instructions:

Select a scholarly article about an intervention that used a behavioral health theory. You will complete a written paper critique in which you will assess the study’s application of the theory. Critique Paper Instructions:

Write a two-page critique of the study’s application and use of the selected behavioral theory. Write the critique of your article using well-organized paragraphs and grammatically correct sentences. Keep a linear, sequential flow to your paper.

· The paper critique/review must pertain to the particular article you read, with specific details about the study’s application of the behavioral theory described in the article. Make sure what you write pertains to the article.

· The critique is a summary of the article, with additional comments on the intervention and application of the theory. Do not replicate or repeat the entire article. Rather, summarize and describe the key points of the study.

· Write the critique in your own words, which will help you think about the study’s application of the theory. Do not simply type in direct quotes from the article—paraphrase them. Typically, a paper should have no more than two direct quotes per page.

The instructor will evaluate your critique based on the evidence of careful, original thought and also based on a comparison of the theory to the article’s use of the theory.

General Instructions:

1. 1 inch margins, 12 point font (Calibri preferred)

2. Length: 2 pages (single spaced), not including references or title page

3. References: Critique should have at least two sources. Class lectures should NOT be used; rather, use original sources (such as the text book and/or articles).

4. Proofread your critique. Grammar/punctuation will be part of the grade. (Refer to checklist)

Detailed Analysis of Theory Application

i. What behavior did the intervention address?

ii. Was the behavior an appropriate “fit” for the theory? Why or why not?

h. Constructs

iii. Which theory constructs did the intervention operationalize? Were all the theory constructs used? Which were and which weren’t?

iv. How did the intervention measure each construct? Was measurement appropriate? Why or why not? (If the intervention was not evaluated, state this)

i. Evaluation

v. Did the study evaluate its application of the theory? If so, how?

vi. Was the evaluation appropriate for the theory? Why or why not?

Conclusion

j. Do you think the intervention was well done? Why or why not?

k. What would you want to see done differently?

l. Do you think that intervention appropriately applied the theory? Why or why not?

m. Use valid, scholarly articles, books, and publications (Wikipedia is not a valid source).

n. Use online libraries resources (PubMed, etc.).

o. Use APA or AMA citation method. Points will be deducted for references not in proper format.
