Dear Professor Schrader,
I have attached the report of the study on the effects of negative employee stress on business productivity. Also included are the recommendations that can help to resolve employee stress and improve business productivity.
Negative stress has severe impacts on employees’ work performance and consequently results in reduced productivity of a company. Employees' primary areas affected by stress include absenteeism, employee morale, decision-making skills, health, courtesy, accuracy, creativity, organizational skills, and cooperation. The work performance of an employee is negatively impacted if any of these areas are affected, this, in turn, leads to reduced business productivity. It is therefore important for employers to identify these negative stress and devise mechanisms to reduce stress levels within the company so that business productivity is enhanced.
Stress reducing programs can save the company huge amounts of money. For example, the wellness program initiated by Morrison Company saves them about $8 for every dollar invested in the program, this s due to the elimination of possible effects of stress on the workplace. Top programs that were found to be efficient and effective are the provision of insurance cover, employee breaks, training programs, stress management seminars, and wellness programs. It is essential that employers manage stress in the workplace to ensure continued productivity.
In light of all these pieces of evidence of the negative impact of stress on a company, I recommend the following: stress management programs should be offered to employees; employees should engage with employers to identify appropriate stress reduction programs; and employers should evaluate their existing programs to identify the most effective stress management programs. I will be happy to meet up with you, at your convenience, to elaborate more on these recommendations.
Sincerely
Shuyi Wu
