Hypothesis Development Activity Estimating energy deficiency is essential to assess the risk of developing the female athlete triad.
A fast, feasible, and reliable tool for clinical use is yet to be designed.
Null hypothesis:
H0: A questionnaire that screens for menstrual disturbances; bone health; and exercise and dietary
habits is not an accurate predictor of energy deficiency in exercising women.
Hypotheses:
H1: Energy deficiency in exercising women can be predicted with 90% sensitivity by a
questionnaire that screens for: the presence of menstrual disturbances; impaired bone health; and
exercise and dietary habits.
H2: The questionnaire overall score will correlate with resting metabolic rate ratio and T3
concentration.
H3: The specific scores for menstrual disturbances and bone health will correlate, respectively,
with menstrual status and bone mineral density.
