English 102 – Part I Skeleton Exercise Name:

Overview of Possible Part I ‘Topics’ :

Depending on your topic and what you want to focus on, here are some of the ‘general purposes’ your paragraphs may have in Part I. You most likely will not include all of these in a single plan, but here are options available on Part I:

· History or informing on background related to topic/issue/community

· Causes of the issue

· ‘Proving the Issue’ - informing on and making clear what the issue(s) is/are -> but be careful to avoid discussion of ‘effects’ from issue (save that for Part II).

· Concession/Rebuttal points – paragraphs that highlight and concede an (a single) opposition or differing point of view on the issue followed by your ‘rebuttal’ of the point (check handout on Canvas).

Considering the above goals to Part I, and your own research thus far, please complete a skeleton of the main points you believe you will cover in the paragraphs of Part I. Please present 5-7 points in sentence form, along with your planned source use or a statement of source need. Check the example response on the Canvas assignment to help guide your work:

1. Traditional education in a classroom and its recent evolution.

Source Support: Burden, Paul R. Classroom Management : Creating a Successful Learning Community. 2nd ed., New York, NY, Wiley, 2003.

2. Growth of technology as an educational tool both to communicate and to perform learning.

Source Support: I have two articles that I could use – “Computers as Tools for Learners” by Mitchell Greenspan et al. and “Early Use of Technology in the Classroom” by Fields and Lange.

3. As tech entered schools and the classroom, there was and is some initial push back by those who don’t see the benefit.

Source Support: I am struggling to find a source for this. I think I will need to look outside of the database, but will ask a librarian for more help

4. The challenge or issue teachers and educators face is to find the right balance which allows for the incorporation of tech while maintaining traditional components that work.
