WEEK 4 ASSIGNMENT
APA Annotated Bibliography
33-3031 Fish and Game Wardens. (n.d.). Retrieved May 02, 2017, from

This website regulated and produced by the United States Department of Labor outlines the
median salary and employment rate for game wardens at a state and local level. The website
gives data about the geographic profile for the occupation as well as the quotient. Finally, the site
had detailed maps of the continental United States, showing color coded maps and population
charts as well as the median pay charts. This website will be useful to me in my final project
because it will be able to answer one of my main questions, the salary and employment
opportunities for a Florida game warden. It also provides me with visual aids to help keep my
final project appealing to the eye, as well as providing a good look into this field.
Lee, B. H., Arsenault, R., & Mormino, G. R. (2015). Backcountry Lawman: True Stories from a Florida Game Warden. Gainesville, FL: University Press of Florida.
This book written by a retired Florida Game Warden, gets into the history of how these
backcountry lawmen became game wardens. The book first gets into the history of how this
position came to be, from country boys that regulated on four wheelers and air boats with
personal weapons, to wearing a uniform. The author gets into personal tales, as well as his part in
the largest environmental bust in Florida history. I purchased this book because not only will it
help in my final project by giving me a firsthand source, it is full of adventures and interesting
tales that will add some real-life experiences to my project. This book also exposes the dangers,
as well as the other aspects of the job that other sources may not have.

This website comes from a Florida newspaper. It talks about the officers that were killed by
poachers as well as hunters who mistook them for an animal. It gets into how game wardens are
having to take their job more cautiously and focus on cracking down on people who shouldn't be
hunting in the first place. While there are TV shows that make game wardens out to be the
enemy, and just causing people who want to hunt and fish for recreation a headache, this article
really gets into the dangers of approaching violators, who are doing illegal activities. This site
will aid me in my final project for getting into the other illegal activities that game wardens come
across that are not part of their job description.

This website talks about the lack of game wardens and how this is affecting their calls. The
reason for the lack of game wardens is linked directly to the low salary. The other underlying
factor is the increasing risks associated with the job. Approaching hunters and other outdoors
men with loaded weapons alone in the woods is something that most people require a hefty
salary to do. Game wardens are also payed less than a regular police officer, making potential
game wardens switch over to become a regular officer for the paycheck. This article will really
aid in my final presentation because this profession is something that not a lot of people know
about. The profession is mostly familiar to people from TV shows as well as a possible run in or
warning, but the behind the scenes information is not common knowledge. I hope this article
exposes the dangers as well as sheds light to why they need to increase the salary and hire more
game wardens.

I found this image from the FWC.com website, it is the main image when clicking the state of
Florida. This is the image I used on my last forum post. I want to use this image on one of my
opening slides to show how Florida is broken up into territories. I will use this map to help
people visualize how the state has taken a divide and conquer approach. I hope it aids in showing
how vast the state is and how different territories have different issues to deal with, as well as
where the need for a game warden started.
