Dear Hiring Manager,
I would like to express my interest in the full-time Master’s Level Counselor – Mobile Response Team position posted on your website. I offer experience in working with individuals with mental health illnesses as well as addictions. My academic training, practicum, and internship in mental health and substance abuse counseling has prepared me to conduct assessments and provide individual, group, and family therapy sessions. I have highly proficient communication skills, am culturally competent and have worked with a diverse population of clients.
I graduated with a B.S. in Health Services Management and hold a graduate certificate in Public Health, with a concentration in Community Health. I recently graduated with a Master of Science degree in Counseling with concentrations in Substance Abuse Counseling and Mental Health Counseling. I completed a practicum in substance abuse counseling which provided me the opportunity to work with individuals with dual diagnoses. Additionally, I completed a one-year practicum/internship in Mental Health Counseling on a crisis stabilization unit. During this year of working with adults with mild to severe mental health issues, I was able to learn how to properly react to crisis situations and grow my clinical skills as a therapist.
I specifically would like a position as a Master’s Level Counselor on the Mobile Response Team because working with individuals with dual diagnoses, and with an organization that focuses on aiding those that need mental health and/or substance abuse treatment, has always been a professional goal. It is always essential to demonstrate patience, understanding, and control when working in crisis situations and effective communication is equally important and has always been my strength. Additionally, I have worked at Mayo Clinic for almost 9 years and there, I served as a member of an interdisciplinary team. This job requirement noted that a vital part of this role would be referral and coordination and collaboration with other entities. Clients within the mental health and addictions populations are always best served with a team approach and I am grateful that my past occupation, as well as courses such as Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues have prepared me to not only be an active team member, but to understand the ethical and legal ramifications behind why the referral process is so delicate yet critical.
Interpersonal skills are always an added bonus when working with different populations. This job requires an individual who is competent enough to work with different ages and populations and in various settings. During my substance abuse practicum experience, it was essential for me to work with individuals within the community and help them understand the services rendered and how the organization could best benefit their needs. I am familiar with meeting individuals where they are and working quickly to ensure clients are safe and have the necessary tools to be successful.
