Japantown San Francisco

Who?

San Francisco population and businesses in Japantown

We know about this population that they were initially located in south market and Chinatown due to the 1906 earthquake they moved to what is now called Japantown and started their life and then develop their businesses.

What?

I studied people Activities. Some who were going shopping, others are relaxing and some are keyboarding.

I saw people from different Cultures: Asian American like Korean, China and Mondrian, white and African American.

Also I studied the two different shopping Malls East and West where I walked inside them the only different I saw between them is that the West Mall has more shops and entertainments more than East mall where it has more like offices.

Where?

I was located in peace plaza so that’s where I was focusing on.

The two shopping malls that were my point of focus were East/west Center.

Why?

cause a lot of people come and shop so good place to observe/study the place.

I picked this population because it related to Asian American studies, Also something that I did not learn about. Initially I picked sf downtown but I changed my mind because it's not really related to Asian American studies and also I lived there for long time so I need something new.

Japanese brought some of its traditions with them which benefit San Francisco community in a lot of ways; economically where they open businesses, martial arts where you can defend yourself and FESTIVALs

When?

It was around 4:30pm on Monday I was surprised that there were not a lot of people there but I notes that there was a n event happened in Sunday  according to one of the workers. This event called Cherry Blossom Festival and it happens only ones a weak from April 14-15 and April 21-22.

How?

I conducted the research by first reading the history about Japantown and also by connecting/taking to some of the workers in Japantown.

There are a lot of places where people can set and talk to each other. Also there are a lot of gaming store where they can play and also FESTIVALs
