Essay Prep Assignment 2 - List of Sources for the topic Below.

Topic: Have the laws and regulations passed as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 been helpful or hurtful to American society?

Now that you have submitted your thesis statement for your course essay assignment, the next step is to submit a bibliography of all the sources you plan to use.  Remember, you are to have at least three articles from the GMC databases as well as your textbook in the course.  You may use more sources that that, but make sure that you have these at minimum and that if you use additional ones (in addition to the minimum I just listed) that they are scholarly and credible.

Your submission of these sources needs to be in a word document with your name, date, and the course in the top left-hand corner. The bibliography needs to be done according to APA style and alphabetized with the authors in alphabetical order. Sources with no author should come after those that do have authors.

Last week Assignment : Write a thesis statement for the topic below.

Topic: Have the laws and regulations passed as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 been helpful or hurtful to American society?

As a result of the attack the PATRIOT Act was introduced to the Congress it was discussed and amended and on 26th of October, it was signed into a law by the president George Bush. This act authorizes that immigrants should be indefinitely detained. (Dias, et. al, 2010). Effects of the USA PATRIOT Act and 2002 This is against the human rights since they will not undergo trial. This is against the human right act since a person is supposed to be tried before they are detained. The law enforcement has been given the permission to do home or business search without the owners' consent. This is against the right of privacy. The officers should come with a warrant that shows that they have the right undertake the search. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been given the mandate to check through phone calls, financial records and even emails without an actual order from the court (McCarthy, 2002). This is violating the rights of the citizens. There have been a lot of legal challenges against the laws since the time it was passed. The federal court has ruled against some of the provisions of the act stating that they are unconstitutional.

In my opinion, the laws and regulations set aside after the attack was not meant to help American citizen. Actually, it ended up hurting them more than it sought to protect them. The act was passed to a way so as to provide security to the people but instead, it took away most of the rights that were constitutionally accorded to the citizens (Goodrich, et. al, 2002). When a law enforcement officer comes into the business or home and does the search without any legal document to show that they have a warrant to search you and your place then it becomes a problem and violates the rights of the citizens. A phone and the email should be confidential things not unless specific people are being investigated but in this act, the National Security Agency had been given the right to collect all the data without the consent of the citizen.

In conclusion, this laws and regulations have caused harm than good and they should undergo amendments. They have not fought for the people but have actually fought against the people and taken all their rights away.
