how make a revision essay?
Essay #3: Revision
ENC 1101 Professor A.K.
For Essay #3, you will revise and edit either Essay #1 or Essay #2.
Use professor-provided feedback, the textbook, as well as resources provided on Blackboard and
discussed in class, to aid you in revising your work.
The grading rubric is below and also appears on turnitin.com.
Essay #3 is due via hard copy in class, and on turnitin.com the night before, as per usual.
Please submit to turnitin.com via the assignment on Blackboard. When you go to submit, you will
notice TWO possible assignments—“Revision: Essay #1” or “Revision: Essay #2.” Submit your essay to the
appropriate assignment. For example, if you revised Essay #1, submit to that assignment. You DO NOT NEED
to submit to both.
As with your previous work,
• All essays must include:
• A clear and concise thesis statement that addresses the topic
• Organized body paragraphs which each present and discuss clear, individual points relating to the thesis
• Support from the text and your analysis/explication of the literature using direct quotations
• Correct citations for support, in MLA format
• See Purdue OWL and the “Writing Resources” folder on Blackboard for help here.
• Active, direct language and strong, clear verbs
• Minimum length: Two pages, typed, double spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt., correct MLA
heading
• Essays must NOT include:
• More than one paragraph of summary or a few summary sentences. You should make
arguments, not provide a summary of the text.
• Excessive pronouns: Pronouns limit your clarity and quality of writing.
• “Be” verbs: They are weak and, in most cases, can be eliminated
• First person: It weakens your arguments.
Revision Task:
You must revise one of your two full essays (Rhetorical Analysis or Argument) utilizing the
resources in the Learning Commons (a tutor) or meeting with your Professor. Be sure to utilize
our class discussions and review the textbook for examples, revision and editing points, and
grammar, as well as read through the notes made on your initial essay.
You will hand in:
1. The original essay, graded and with professor comments
2. A revision plan, typed or handwritten, which explains what you plan to focus on in your revision
process
3. Notes on your draft about what you will fix and how you will fix it
4. Proof of visiting the tutoring center (if applicable)
5. A clean revised and edited copy of the essay, including Work(s) Cited page
