E3 Project: Interview Assignment (50 pts./5%)

Before you select who to interview, make certain to assess your current research to indicate where you might have “research gaps” to fill (refer to your AB for assistance). Carefully consider a subject who can a) provide the information necessary to fill the gaps. b) be accessed in a timely manner.

To begin the Interview Assignment, complete the following steps:

1. Contact your subject to schedule the interview. 2. Create a brief list of questions (create open-ended questions) for your subject. 3. After the interview, write a reflection (1-1 1/2 pages; MLA) about your interview experience; refer to the IP Checklist in Week 11 so you know how to organize this assignment.

When writing your reflection, consider the following questions: -Why did you select your interviewee? -What factors did you have to consider when selecting your subject and scheduling the interview? -What challenges did you encounter during the assignment process? -How did you create your interview questions? -What surprised you about your interactions with your subject? -What did you learn from the interview?

In your reflection, 1) introduce your subject and explain what they do (intro), 2) focus on 2-4 topics you learned about during the interview (body paragraphs), and 3) reflect on what you learned about the field and from the interview experience (conclusion).

Tips: -Reach out to multiple subjects at once (1-3) before trying to find someone else. -Consider how you present yourself; how can you establish credibility? -Utilize the Career Center, your professors, and campus resources to find an interviewee. -Don’t be afraid to reach out to someone you assume is unreachable; you may be surprised! -Write the reflection immediately after the interview. -Start right away

Due Date: Final Draft: Friday, April 9, before 11:59 p.m. in the Dropbox

Citation Example (from OWL at Purdue):

“Personal interviews refer to those interviews that you conduct yourself. List the interview by the name of the interviewee. Include the descriptor Personal interview and the date of the interview.”
