Essay 1 - Outline

Directions:

· Review the paragraph structure PowerPoints on Blackboard

· Follow the directions for each paragraph. For example, some sections require just bullet points and others require full sentences. Sections that you are required to complete are in RED.

· Note that a bullet point idea should be about a 3-5 word phrase and not a full sentence

· You will be graded on your ability to follow all outline guidelines. If you fail to meet any of these expectations, points will be deducted accordingly.

Introduction paragraph

· Hook: (2 bullet points)

· The world faces several problems which need to be resolved.

· Among some of these problems is gender equality and hunger all of which result to unequal societies that are less cohesive.

· Thesis: (must use thesis statement structure below word-for-word)

· Two problems in the world that need solving are hunger and gender equality.

Body paragraph #1

· Topic sentence: (must use topic sentence structure below word-for-word)

· The first problem that needs to be solved is hunger.

· Part I: Identify one cause of the problem (1 bullet point)

· Poverty

· Part II: Identify one effect of the problem (1 bullet point)

· Babies born prematurely

· Conclusion sentence: (full sentence – restate topic sentence in different words)

· The world faces numerous challenges that need to be resolved. Among these challenges is hunger which can be eradicated by reducing crop infestation so as to enhance crop yields that are good for consumption.

Body paragraph #2

· Topic sentence: (must use topic sentence structure below word-for-word)

· The second problem that needs to be solved is gender equality.

· Part I: Identify one cause of the problem (1 bullet point)

· Poor medical care

· Part II: Identify one effect of the problem (1 bullet point)

· Unequal societies which are less cohesive

· Conclusion sentence: (full sentence – restate topic sentence in different words)

· The world faces several challenges that need to be resolved. Among these problems is gender equality whereby it is crucial to enhance values such as the respect for human rights and the equality between men and women.

Conclusion paragraph

· Summary of essay’s main ideas (2 bullet points)

· Hunger as a problem in the world today

· Gender equality as a challenge in the world today

· Propose a potential solution for each problem as your final idea (2 bullet points)

· Reducing crop infestation so as to enhance crop yields that are good for consumption

· Ensuring that individuals get access to good medical care so as to curb instances of gender inequality
