- Which is more important, growth mindset or grit? Or are they the same thing?
- Can you learn “grit”? Can you learn growth mindset? If so, how? Have any experiences in your life helped you to form grit or a growth mindset, or can you use them going
forward? - What else contributes to success and failure besides grit or growth mindset? Is it possible
that even the "grittiest" person can still fail? - Are there any flaws in either of these beliefs? Is failure always beneficial? Are there any

THIS IS THE HOMEWORK I HAD DONE THAT I WAS ASSIGNED RELATING TO THE ESSAY, I HAVE TO USE THIS INFORMATION TO WRITE MY ESSAY!
Carol Dweck’s TED Talk on growth mindset
1) The main idea of Carol Dweck’s TED Talk on growth mindset is that the ‘power of yet’ is significant in allowing abilities being developed which equals a growth mindset in the
society. This main idea is implied and related to many topics in life. It is repeated on many different occasions that could relate to people. For instance, students receiving a bad grade on a report card is a ‘ let down’ mindset. However, the power of not yet helps change the
mindset.
2) In my opinion, she provided sufficient supporting information to convince me of her claim. Throughout the video, this lady presented graphs and studies done in certain parts on the world which related to her idea of the power of yet. For example, she stated that if students had a negative mindset about an assignment, then they would try to cheat or see
other people fail below them which would make them feel good about themselves.
3) The logical fashion of the order of ideas which satisfying enough to me because this lady explained her concept first before she implied any relating ideas. She applied this idea to
mostly young workers and students. However, you can also directly apply this life lesson is relatable to distinct age groups.
4) She used the rhetorical strategy known as pathos and used the idea of
emotion/experience. An example is when she spoke about how young workers cannot get through the day without an award which is a physiological trait that should be banished from this generation which leads to the topic that being outside the comfort zone could
allow for growth and additional learning.
Finally, add in a brief paragraph or so of personal reflection. What did you think of these talks? Do you agree with their premises? Do you disagree?
In my opinion, this talk was very relatable since I am a student in college and see my peers
in my classrooms throughout the week. Everyone is very different. Some people are motivated about their thinkings, but some people have a fragile mindset in doing the things
described precisely in the video.
Angela Lee Duckworth’s TED Talk
1) The main idea of Angela Lee Duckworth's TED talk on Grit is that ‘Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals.’In My perspective, the speech was implied because
there were an appropriate amount of examples and scenarios presented related to the
experiments she has tested. This was also a reiterated speech, Angela Lee Duckworth made sure the audience knew that grit is a continuous commitment for consecutive years.
2) I agree that the speaker presented convincing adequate supporting information by giving the experimental examples such as going to West Point Military Academy and introducing the surveys to the Chicago public schools. However, the only thing that is
missing to prove the point is the percent proof such as a data report.
3) The logical fashion of the order of ideas which was satisfying enough to me because she was very organized by the manner of presenting the concept of grit. Perspectively, the
speech was logically and psychologically understandable.
4)One example of the speaker using pathos is when Angela Duckworth relates the emotional value of having a character to grit. Grit is stamina and its order to have the
strength you have to keep a strong personality through every situation in life.
Finally, add in a brief paragraph or so of personal reflection. What did you think of these talks? Do you agree with their premises? Do you disagree?
In my opinion, Angela Lee Duckworth exposes the importance of character to succeed in life. She emphasized every point that was made in the speech. Also, I find that the concept
of grit equals stamina is very important because I see that my peers in class and individuals around me deal with these type of situations to find the motivation to live life like it is a
marathon.
