PLEASE RESPOND TO ERICA POST BELOW

Specifically, you will complete the following:

· On the basis of your readings, explain why leaders are sometimes resistant to feedback.

According to Block, (2011), leaders are sometimes resistant to feedback when they are not clear on the direction the consultant is headed or is not sure if the recommendations would be implemented effectively.  I know from personal experience that management at times can be unsure if the feedback is going to be practical and will stay in line with the organization current goals and direction.  As, with my previous employer they had to hire a second consultant as they were not accepting of the feedback from the previous consultant.

· Discuss ways you can identify resistance. What kinds of behaviors can a client display that would indicate he or she is resistant to feedback

In looking at kinds of behaviors that a client can display that will indicate resistance to feedback, according to Block, (2011), requesting more information, providing too much detailed information that is irrelevant, delaying the project, compliance, silence, and moralizing.  I know as a therapist and when I am engaged with a client who is usually talkative and all of sudden is quiet. I will then reframe the previous question and try to address any confusion as well as resistance that the client is currently having.  As, clients with mental health and substance abuse disorders can be résistance to change.

· On the basis of your readings from the text, articles, and other research, describe some strategies a consultant can use for overcoming resistance.

When dealing with strategies as a consultant to address resistance according to Block, (2011), is not to fight back with the client but to embrace their resistance to change, be neutral, and remain silent.  Therefore, by embracing the resistance and taking a neutral stance will allow the client to feel comfortable and not as if the consultant is more concern about selling their service but is invested in helping the organization to move forward.  Thus, research suggested that feedback is for improving performance and is part of the process

(Bagwandeen, & Singaram, 2016).  Therefore, it is important as a consultant to expect resistance with potential clients.

· Discuss skills and traits that would be important for a consultant to use to help a client overcome resistance.

According, to Block, (2011), It is important for a consultant to have empathy, be neutral,

Non-aggressive, patience, be supportive, and have confidence.   These skills can assist a consultant when addressing a resistance client as a consultant with lack confidence will place fear and doubt in the potential client. As, noted earlier this is an area that I will need to work on as I will need confidence in my skills and abilities when addressing a client.
