Responding to Others

· Try responding to them using the strategies you practiced in week 4 (responding as a skeptic, reflector, validator, or extender).

· Ask them questions about the problem they are going to explore.

· Ask them about key concerns, target audience, or the kind of sources they might use.

· Provide respectful feedback about the persuasive tactics in their posts.

· Extend the conversation, exploring topics in creative and constructive ways.

Hello everyone,

The majority of the time we only see the smiles that nurses show rather than the complaining and the signs of defeat. There are so many problems that nurses go through and deal with daily. For example, long hours, rude patients, coming into contact with viruses, and many other things. All of these problems are happening because of the low manpower that nurses have.

Typically, a nurse in the hospital works numerous twelve hours shifts while being on their feet almost the whole time. Being on-call and having to work overtime can cause so much stress on the body and your mental health. Nurses are being overworked. It was a study that showed several prevalence percentages for nurses in the workplace. Post-traumatic stress disorder was 47%, anxiety was 38%, depression was 41%, and high emotional exhaustion was 60%. Covid-19 has caused a big toll on nurses since it began in 2019. From having to work numerous hours to dying from coming into contact with the virus. In March 2021, more than 3,500 health care workers died from Covid-19 in the United States.

Nurses go through a lot and they still have to push their bodies and mind to be able to save lives and show compassion. We can decrease the amount of stress that is put on nurses by coming up with a program to help them vent. Finding different ways to acquire more nurses could also be helpful. Fixing this problem will allow the atmosphere to be better for the nurses and lift morale. We want nurses to be able to enjoy their jobs while providing care and love for the patients. How can we provide this service sufficiently and correctly if nurses are being overworked and understaffed?

Class and Professor,

For my portfolio paper in this class, I am writing about stress and the effects it has on the body. I am giving it a go writing this in a more scientific format since my bachelor’s program is in health sciences. I am planning on describing the effects of stress at the level of the body systems and smaller. I am very interested in understanding the why of our body’s reactions. The problem I want to discuss in the paper relates to how stress effects our day-to-day life. I want to see how stress affects us at the cellular and system level during minor and major stimuli. When we can understand why we feel the way we do, it can give us some insight into how we can avoid the negative feelings. If any of you are like myself, trying to balance school, family, work, and countless other commitments really takes a toll on my mental wellbeing. I feel like I can pull my hair out from the stress sometimes. However, there has to be a way to look at and understand stress that can add some benefit to our lives. We can take control of ourselves and use the stress to only propel us toward success. I know all of you are eager to better yourselves, that’s why we are taking college classes, so I know you would be just as eager as myself to dive deeper into how we can manage or eliminate some of the stress we feel. I am excited to look at this problem and get a better understanding so I can share my findings with all of you!
