Referencing is among the most important aspects of academic writing though it may turn confusing to the writers to some extent. It is therefore the process which involves citing or rather documenting information in form of quotes, theories and ideas presented to illustrate certain information or diagrams that one has used in their compilation of their assignments. There are a number of reasons as to why one is required to include references in their work; To proof that relevant sources have been researched, to create a point of reference where the reader of our work can trace back the original sources, to act as a documentary supporting the information presented in the research paper, to argue and defend differing points, to prove to it that our work is not copied, but original from our own research, lastly, referencing your work helps the reader and the other related personnel to know that your work is not plagiarized. However, some academic writers have found it difficult to follow the stated referencing rules. Taking an example of two samples from two different students, one will see the reality of the argument.
