Developing and Organizing Content (C1): - read the essay prompt(s) carefully and ensure that you understand the purpose of the assignment - ask the teacher, classmates if you have any questions - create a list of important/relevant quotations from text(s) studied based on essay prompt - group the quotations, look for patterns, try to identify the richest quotations from the list - analyse the quotations in point form--why are these quotations instructive, important?

Use Knowledge of Form and Style (C2): - try to decide on a working thesis in consultation with teacher - complete an essay outline in full and get feedback before you write a first draft - use correct essay structure: Intro: hook, topic, plan, thesis Body: opening sentence, point/ proof/explain, closing sentence Conclusion: restated thesis, plan, clincher - use transition words to provide coherence between ideas, points - use present tense when referring to text - use formal diction and avoid contractions, slang - use MLA style for citations, Work Cited page, and format your page correctly - integrate quotations correctly - analyze quotations effectively

Applying Knowledge of Conventions (C3): - print out work and go over it with a teacher, peer, family member - make note of any errors and correct them, esp. spelling and grammar errors that make your ideas less clear - use punctuation correctly, especially: commas, dashes, semicolons, colons - polish up final drafts, make note of the types of improvements that were made

Reflecting on Skills and Strategies (C4): - keep a “writing error” log, where you list any common errors committed and how to fix them - keep running list of new vocabulary words - complete both columns on this sheet.
