1. My selected topic is death penalty. Death penalty is the punishment of execution, administered to someone legally convicted of a capital crime. The death penalty is a cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment, and a violation of humans rights but everyday people are put to death in countries around the world.(reprieve.org)

0. Why is this topic appropriate for an argument paper?

The reason is that there has been a group of people who have been in support of the death penalty and some people have also been against it therefore they debate on whether or not the death penalty should be allow therefore, this topic is appropriate for an argument paper.

I think that the death penalty should not be enacted due to various reasons. The death penalty could be described as an act where people are killed for a crime that they have committed.

1. In the Bible it is stated in one of the commandments, ‘Thou Shall Not Kill’

1. It has not been proven whether the death penalty deters crime.

1. Innocent people may also be killed via a death penalty.

I believe that research will support my reasons on the death penalty is abolished. However, if research does not support this, I will use the views of other people including politicians to see whether my position could be supported.

Create a rough draft of your thesis statement using your position and the reasons for your position. Your thesis statement will serve as the claim in your argument.

The death penalty has its pros and cons and my position is that it should not be present in any democratic state.

The author seeks to look at how capital punishment has changed in the United States of America. He also looks at how the American’s have struggled to end the death penalty especially between the years 1900 and 2010.

The author states that there have been framing arguments on the issue of the death penalty from the year 1900- 2010. He also suggests that there has been a campaign against it since many people are not in support of it as a form, of punishment.
