Consider the readings and videos about gender roles and gender stereotypes you have reviewed in this module. Explain whether or not you think gender roles are harmful or helpful to society and why. Then, identify two gender stereotypes that have been applied to you and explain how each one has had a positive or a negative effect on you. Cite examples from the course readings, your own experience, and any other resources to support your explanation.

Synthesize ideas from multiple sources in an essay AND Identify stereotypes in the media. Choose from the topics below or get your own topic. Write a paragraph that describes your topic for Essay 2. Include two supporting points and cite one of them, using MLA documentation. Also outline the Thesis/Topic sentence in this paragraph.

Essay #2: Consider the learning resources in this module and think about the learning resources and assignments on stereotypes in Module 1. Think about how diverse groups are represented in the media. Select one example of a movie, television show, book, advertisement, music video, song, or website, and reflect on how a particular group is portrayed in the example you selected. Identify the group you selected (for example, people with mental illnesses, overweight people, the elderly, mothers, or members of an ethnic group or religion) and explain how the group is portrayed in the example you selected. Identify any stereotypes this portrayal reinforces, and explain why this portrayal might be damaging for the group and society in general. Be sure to include specific examples to support your explanation. You must cite support from two of the learning resources presented in this module (of which one must be a reading), your own observations and experiences, and other resources to support the points you make in your analysis. You must cite at least three sources. You may cite additional sources that you find in the library or online. NOTE: Wikipedia, shmoop.com, e -how, and 123helpme.com are not reliable academic websites and any sources found there are not acceptable. This essay should be 850-1100 words (double -spaced, 12 - point, Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri font). Your citations and the paper must be in proper MLA format.
