Elijah moving to Mount Horeb

Elijah moved to Mount Horeb to save his life from being killed by Jezebel.

As he was on his journey, he left his servant at Beersheba’s house. (1st kings 19:3)

He walked for a full day to get into the wilderness.(1st kings 19:4)

Elijah giving up

At first Elijah wished to die since He was giving up on life and he felt like God was ignoring him.

Thereafter, he came across a hiding place where he sat under a tree.

Appearance of the Angel

During the tough times that Elijah went through, the Angel appeared to him and woke him up. (1st kings 19: 5)

At that same time, the Angel offered food in form of cake and water. (1st kings 19:6)

Later on, Elijah went into the cave and started praying when the lord asked him what he wanted and he said Israel had forsaken God’s word, Israel wants to get rid of him and he’s the only faithful servant of God, and Israel had lost respect for God’s alters. (1st kings 19:10)

God’s vice to Elijah

As Elijah was in the cave, God told him to go and stand upon Mount Horeb.

During that moment, there was power in form of fire, earthquake, and a strong wind.

A renewed commission

God wanted Elijah to accomplish several tasks. He wanted Elijah to anoint Elisha as a prophet.

He also wanted him to anoint Hazael to be the king of Syria.

Elijah went extremes to do what God commanded him to do.

God chose him despite his inconsistencies.

The baptism of Jesus Christ

Jesus went to Jordan from Galilee for him to be baptized. (Mathew 3: 13)

He was baptized by John the Baptist. (Mathew 3:14

After the baptism of Jesus, as He walked out of the water He saw the spirit of God descending in form of a dove and shining towards Him.

According to the Acts 2:38, the Bible clearly states that every one should repent and be baptized for it creates forgiveness of sins.

The verse encourages that when people are baptized they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

How they point to Jesus

Death

When Ahab was told everything that Elijah had done she Wanted to revenge by also killing Elijah which made Elijah to move to Mount Horeb. When at Mount Horeb, he almost gave up and prayed for death to come his way but God sent Angels that took care of him. Additionally, God appeared to him and told him the tasks that he was supposed to fulfil.

The baptism of Jesus indicates that the wages of sin is death and for one to fully receive the gift of the Holy spirit, he or she must repent through baptism.

Resurrection

The incidence of Elijah at Mount Horeb that point to the resurrection is Elijah who seems to give up in God’s ministry but then on His journey he receives comfort and help from the Angels and also God appears to him who gives him tasks that he should assign Men of God.

The baptism of Jesus Christ connects to resurrection because when Jesus is baptized a dove descends from heaven which is a sign of new life and energy that should be used in preaching God’s message through tenderness and love. (Luke 4:18)
