Guide to Uploading Your Website
First, you should already have a Wright State account set up for you.
The username and password are the same you use to log in to PILOT.
The rest depends which computer you are using.
At the end there’s a bit that shows you how to view your website
IF YOU ARE IN RUSS Labs 1. Open the program "Secure File Transfer Client" in the "SSH Secure Shell" folder of the start
menu.
2. Click "Quick Connect"
3. Fill in Host Name and User Name. Host Name is unixapps1.wright.edu. user name is the same
one you use to log in to Pilot.
4. Your password is the same one you use to log in to Pilot.
5. Hit accept if it says something about registering a key. Don’t worry about the profile thing.
6. You should see something like this now:
Your files go in the folder “www”.
7. To transfer files, just drag and drop them to the folder you want them to go in.
8. Once you put your “index.html” or “index.htm” file in the www folder, you can view it on the
internet!
I’m copying the following bit from the CATS guide on this, which you should also read (I uploaded it to
the dropbox as personal_website.pdf)
IF YOU ARE IN Oleman 320
You must use the program WinSCP instead of SSH Secure Shell
Fill it out like so. Username and password same as PILOT:
Hit yes on this:
Files go in the www folder!
View Your Webpages on the Internet
Now that you have created your home page and posted it on the World Wide Web, you can view it at your unique URL (Universal Resource Locator). Your URL is in the form of: http://www.wright.edu/~email_name For example, if your email address is smith.1@wright.edu, your email name is smith.1 and your URL would be http://www.wright.edu/~smith.1 Note that this address is case sensitive, so /~Smith.1 will not work. To view your pages: 1. Open a web browser (i.e., Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox or Safari).
2. In the Location (or Address) field, type your URL.
3. Press Enter. Your home page should load and be viewable. If it is not, refer to section 6, Troubleshooting Your Website, for help.
