Dream Speech Assignment

Criteria Explanation Topic/Approach • For this speech, you should imagine that you have reached the Hall of

Fame for your career and are being inducted. • This is a special occasion speech. • You will need to make sure to acknowledge the people giving you the

award or the “hall” and to acknowledge people who helped you obtain your dream.

Time Limit • 2 -3 minutes; 2-point penalty for every 15 seconds over or under time limit up to a total of 10 points

Language • You are required to use a minimum of three different types of language – such as alliteration metaphor, simile, antithesis, repetition, parallelism (not main points), imagery, etc

Manuscript/ Preparation Sentence Outline

• A completed sentence manuscript of your speech – see outline structure • The manuscript is worth 50% of the speech grade • A copy of the printed outline should be handed to the instructor prior to

the speech. • An electronic copy of the outline should be uploaded to the learning

management system (class website) by 11:59 the day of the presentation.

• The outline should include the Works Cited Speech Structure • You will have an attention getter, the body of the speech, and a clencher. Number of Main Points • Two to four, as required by your approach to the speech

• Do not forget your preview (introduction) and your summary statements (conclusion)

Speaking Style/Speaking Outline • Manuscript; but do it without sacrificing delivery. You can use notecards if you prefer.
