If am a manager of a medium-to-large franchise-type restaurant in a trying economy era, I will first gather enough information and data to see if it is feasible to maintain business in this time with the franchise fee, fixed price and the cost of rent/salaries/materials. If all the analyze points to the conclusion that we can float, then I will proceed to the next step. If all evidence shows the restaurant is not profitable with the current economy, I would be 100% honest with my employees and cut our losses early to provide them with the best severance possible. That being said, if there is a possibility we can survive the trying times, I will consider the following steps to help the restaurant succeed: 1. Cut budget (finding new suppliers, save energy cost, let go inefficient employees) 2. Cost effective marketing campaign (via social media, endorsement, etc) 3. Communication the team with my vision for the restaurant's future. Make sure the team remained is tight-knit like a family. Encourage them to take initiative.
