Discussion 1: Organizational Support for Creativity
Description of the Organization
Google Corporation is one of the largest technology companies in the world. Over the years, the organization has experienced growth. Much of this success can be attributed to the corporation’s innovative practices. Furthermore, the corporation has a relatively small number of employees relative to other multinational corporations. However, it has ensured that its workplace environment fosters innovation.
Description of Factors that Contribute to Creative Climate
The corporation has implemented various measures, which have been instrumental in the company’s success. One of these factors is ensuring that all the employees have a shared mission. This ensures that they know where the organization is heading. Besides, the company has a risk-taking attitude, which tends to encourage all the employees to have psychological safety and to try new ideas that would enhance the performance of the company (Long, 2010). Additionally, the company has internal innovation reviews, a system that involves conducting meetings where the company’s executives present product ideas.
Description of the Creativity Assessment
Divergent thinking texts are the most applicable in the context of Google Corporation. The assessment is the most suitable in estimating the potential for creative thinking in the organization. With these tests, one can measure the intrinsic interests that can be tapped and originality.
Identify the Dimensions of Creativity in the Organization
The dimensions of creativity in the organization can be classified into various areas. One of these is problem sensitivity, which involves being sensitive to contradictions, anomalies, subtle gaps, paradoxes, and other elements that present opportunities for problem-solving. Another dimension is the fluency of thoughts, which involves the generation of ideas. Besides, the company also has the flexibility of thoughts, which involves the ability of the employees to develop possibilities and ideas across diverse lines of thought (Jouret, 2009).

Description of the Organization
The organization I chose was my former place of employment. It was a middle school so when looking at it as an isolated group it was a small organization. My position there was a 7th grade teacher.
Description of factors that Contribute to Creative Climate
The administration and leadership at my school was lacking in several areas however fostering creativity was not one of them. They did an excellent job of emphasizing creativity from the top down and making it a priority. In staff meetings we would always have an interactive activity where all the staff would break off into groups and come up with solutions to problems the school was facing. This went a long way in promoting a team collaborative environment. On a smaller scale individual teachers would meet with their mentors or instructional coaches to talk about ways we could be more creative in the classroom. In all situations as a teacher I always felt like my ideas were welcomed and encouraged.
Description of the Creativity Assessment
My organization scored very well on the creativity assessment and I would say that it gave a fairly accurate representation of how things are at the school. The school scored very well on the ability to promote creativity and freedom, however one area they did not score as high was in involvement. One common complaint at the school is that at times there is too much creativity and not enough direction given from administration.
Identify Dimensions of Creativity in the Organization
The highest scoring part of the assessment was freedom while the lowest scoring part was involvement. This makes perfect sense because it is virtually impossible for an organization to to completely involved while giving sufficient freedom and vice-versa. There needs to be a sufficient balance between involvement from management and freedom and at my current organization there is just a little too much freedom. My organization has an overall excellent creative environment however things can always be better, which is what we as innovators should strive for (Ekvall, 1996).
