Introduction
Minimum wages are set for various reasons. Why are they set? You will see how important minimum
wages are and why they may vary in different states. While it may not matter to you I will provide with
accurate proof. You may be able to help someone in the future from getting under payed.
How are minimum wages set?
Why are minimum wages set? Everything is so high these days on our basic everyday life. Why are the
minimum wages not going up yet. When are they suppose to change . Times are hard and we really need a
change. (Bloomberg) -- With an effort by Democrats to boost the national minimum wage stalled, a new report
finds that on average one in three U.S. workers is still making less than $15 an hour, while the share of women
and people of color earning that amount is even greater.
Nearly 52 million U.S. workers — or 32% of the country's workforce — earn less than $15 an hour, according to a report published Tuesday by Oxfam America. The data help quantify how many Americans could be impacted by the Raise the Wage Act, which would set a $15 federal hourly minimum and has been pending in Congress since January
Why is there a minimum wage?
Why is there a minimum wage? I feel it’s simply for them to govern our lives . Most people that are
only making minimum wage can’t hardly survive or make it and are having a very hard time. As I researched
and I found that it varies in different states. I was more interested in Texas which hasn’t went up much over the
years

How has minimum wages changed over the last 20 years In1989 it was $1.40 then in 2000 it went up to $3.35. In 2009 it want from 6.55 to In 2010 $7.10 and now. Ending in 2023 with 7.25 in Texas. Each state is slightly different I may add. The chart above will give you a break down .The chart below show different states. It only increased by $3 in the last 29 years.
History of Minimum WageWill help you understand more clearly. It’s Also good to know that if you are under paid you can do something about it and you have up until 2 years to do. Minimum wages is so bad with increasing that I think people should go on strike and demand increases with the recession right now.
Conclusion Some will never have to worry about minimum wages. Some will have good jobs making salary and high pay. As for me that’s why I’m in college now to have something to fall back on and make more money. Minimum wages will always be a part of our kids family & friends. Since it only increased by $3 the last 20 years . I feel like something should have been done.
