The Real Zeitgeist
What characteristics should a real leader possess? Every person has a different opinion regarding which strength a leader should have. Therefore, the world has so many leaders on every single campus like religion has the pop, the country has the president, and the army has the captain and so on. But what makes a leader to be the zeitgeist of the time? Shakira Mebarak is a Colombian singer, dancer, songwriter, record producer, businesswoman, actress, activism, and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. In her career she has given the best of her. Leaving her with so much recognition and being the best on what she does. Besides, she has the instinct to help people and use her fame to rise her voice for the ones who do not to promote peace. Even more taking the problem from the roots giving the kids the opportunity to grow up with a good education and nutrition. And not being it, she has demonstrated to be a person with principles. And this is what a zeitgeist person should have. Honesty is a big world and to be honest is even harder. There is not much to say about Shakira’s personal life but good thing. She loves her family, Pique, Milan, Sasha and her parents. They look a very unite family. Her parents have always being on her side supporting her since she started her carrier. In her love life, she has had three boyfriends in her entire life and spend a good amount of time with each one. This could demonstrate that she is a stable person who tries to keep a balance on her life. After she broke up with his last ex-boyfriend and manager Antonio de la Rua, a person who she spent more than 10 years of her life. He becomes very nasty person with her trying to take money from her and getting into legal issues. They never get married, but he was always promoting his love when he could to end up cheating on her. This was a really bad moment on her life where she never spoke a single world about her situation with him. Giving a good example of integrity. In the article “The Insufficient of Honesty” Stephen L. Carter said “Another reason that honesty alone is no substitute for integrity is that if forthrightness is not preceded by discernment, it may result in the expression of an incorrect moral judgment”. Meaning you never know your believes until you prove yourself. Shakira is still a human being with errors and defects. But the matter that she can still work with her ex-boyfriend Antonio De La Rua after many years of relationship shows her real personality. After they broke up she put her feeling on a side and focus on the human being that was next to her for several years. That is a real test. Shakira has being criticized for her voice since she was little to the point that she was kit out from school’s chorus, but this was not an impediment for her to be the great singer she is now. People said that she sound like a goat, and she should dedicate herself into another field, but the music was her passion. She works very hard and had many rejections before coming the person she is now. Shakira was recognized in Colombia when she started moving her hip doing the belly dance on her album “Piez Descalzos” dedicated to her foundation “Piez descalzos” and later on world wild with her album “Oral Fixation” in English. Even though she won all this fame with her hard work she was still criticized for her voice. But without matter what negative people says about her she looks forward until becomes the first Latin artist with many recognitions and occupy the first place in almost all the categories in her field. Overcome the objectives in life is not easy and even less when you are proving yourself not just in your community, but trying to conquer the entire world. Perseverance is one of the most important attribute to succeed in life and to have this on a leader could lead only to good things. Unfortunately in this world people get famous for what media wants to show that the entire beauty of what the person offers. When Shakira end her relationship with Antonio de la Rua, It becomes the news of the year showing her in every single magazine and news for more than a month. But when Shakira built up “Pies Descalzos” Foundation to provide education and nutrition to kids with low income; or when she could integrate this program worldwide starting with Africa; or when she spoke and used her power to influence in world peace in front of different entities, no media is paying attention to highlight this wonderful actions, if it has heard once it has been too much. In the article “The Moral Instinct” by Steven Pinker, the author express how media can influences in people’s mind. He compared Mother Teresa, Bill Gates and Norman Borlaug to see who is more admirable according to their actions. Maria Teresa de Calcuta being the most known person was the first option, but in reality Norman Borlaug father of the “Green revolution” to reduce hunger has saving more lives than Mother Teresa and Bill gates together. These examples are just a reality of today’s world and how Shakira does not get to far from it. Getting to know more of her makes her the best candidate to be the person to follow.
Shakira has not only proved to herself, but has proved to everyone that is the leader that the people need to bring a little of faith to fight for their dreams, and not only fight for their own but for everyone else’s. People lead to people and each person need from the other to become a better one.
