This is a natural phenomenon that results from sudden release of stored energy in the earth’s crust as seismic waves. Earthquakes destroy any type of asset, cause death and injuries as a result of falling debris. Major earthquake can trigger spark fires, landslides and release of toxic chemicals. If it occurs during rainy season it can lead to flooding and storm drains. Buildings that fall short of the current standards for seismic safety are more prone to destruction. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake near an urban area occurring during mid-afternoon (Brevard County, 2009).

This includes terrorist activities like shootings, bombings, hijacking and bombing. The most common acts of terrorism include fires, vandalism, explosion and shootings (Brevard County, 2009). They can be conducted by an active shooter, an individual trying to kill people in an area. The targets of an armed attack are varying. Active shooters maybe students, employee, and anti-extremist group or a group of students. A school shooting happening in the afternoon.

This is an uncontrollable fire that starts in the wilderness. It is large in size and can quickly spread or change direction. Drought and high temperatures are the risk factors for this fire. Wildfires affect major population centers and assets. Wildfire caused by lightning burning over 4,532 acres.

Tropical storm happening in the evening.

Flood hazards from tidal flooding during high tide events and fluvial flooding from overflowing banks. Severe storms leading to large amounts of rain and heavy winds that result in flooding (Brevard County, 2009). Flooding is a natural occurrence with older structure more vulnerable. Heavy rains on a Saturday morning leading to flooding.
