Which of the four directions do you believe is your style?

West-Analysis

What are the strengths of your style? (at least four adjectives)

Practical

Understand and analyze information.

Resourceful

Examines needs.

What are the limitations of your style? (at least four adjectives)

Withdrawn to other working styles.

Indecisive

Stubborn

Uncaring of others opinion

Which style do you find the most difficult to work with in others, and why?

North- Is an action leadership style, which could be defined as “I can do it” or “Do it now”. The reason that I find that this leadership style would be difficult to work, as their leadership style can be controlling, quick to act, have a sense of urgency, and see only black and white, which can make it difficult to work with others. The West and North will have some challenges working together as they can have a disregard of other feelings and may become overloaded with information and workload.

What do the other directions need to know about you so that you can work effectively together?

The other directions need to know that I am a strict follow by the procedure and guidelines and planning type leadership. Very systematic, if a teamwork is doing the same thing and follow the same procedure with the ability to adapt to change quickly. As technology changes, I may be resistant to change especially if a system is working well. Leadership abilities will advance with practice if a leadership compass is used. To increase your chances of becoming the ideal leader you want to be, you can identify your leadership strengths and work to develop them (Qian, 2022).

Theme 2

Below are the results of how good my leadership skills are:

 53-90

Excellent! You're well on your way to becoming a good leader. However, you can never be too good at leadership or too experienced – so look at the areas where you didn't score maximum points and discover more about what you can do to improve your performance.

Although the quiz results show that I am on my way to becoming a good leader, there is still room for improvement. As I have stated above my leadership style comes with resistance to change. As a west leadership style person developing ways to incorporate change as technology changes in very important. In healthcare studies are always being performed to help with the advancement of medicine and technique, so annual/quarterly training for healthcare professionals is a strong way to improve leadership styles and skills. As the article states that the best leaders are lifelong students, they continually adapt fresh concepts and incorporate them as effectively as possible into their leadership styles (Qian, 2022).

Theme 1:

· Which of the four directions do you believe is your style?

I believe that the direction that best fits my leadership style is north. I’m not afraid of working hard, but I know I cannot accomplish all work, so I also know how to encourage others to get things done. I have a just-do-it mentality when it comes to approaching work. I like to try and finish things before deadlines and care about being the go-to person for things.

· What are the strengths of your style? (at least four adjectives)

My strengths are reliable, hard-working, active, and present. I believe these words sum up the qualities of the north-direction style. The north style is the hard-working, reliable leader. Even when I look for others to complete a task, I will still play an active role and be active along the process.

· What are the limitations of your style? (at least four adjectives)

Some of the limitations of the north style are that I am often burned out, I have trouble saying no, controlling/micromanager, and blunt. Often with this style, people under me feel like I’m being too blunt, and I have trouble letting people take over things because it might take them twice as long to get something done. Because I can be seen as controlling and just doing things alone, I often feel burned out from too much work.

· Which style do you find the most difficult to work with in others, and why?

The south style is the hardest people to work with because they often let the slackers get away with things. I’m the type of person that see the holes in people and has trouble highlighting people who aren’t doing anything. The south type is more key to acknowledging every person no matter their role, big or small. It is hard to understand some excuses people give me, and the south type would understand things like that.

· What do the other directions need to know about you so that you can work effectively together?

The other directions need to know that even though I sound tough, I am open to being put in my place. I like being the go-to for things, but also, I want people to make decisions for themselves and take that initiative. I am a hard worker but appreciate thanks and acknowledgment to some extent. It helps me to feel like someone sees the work I am putting into things. I can be tough on myself and often overthink what I say and do, even though I get positive feedback often.

Theme 2:

I would agree with this assessment. I think I am a strong leader, but I could improve. I know how to keep things running and make the necessary changes when certain variables change, keeping operations flowing. My confident leadership personality allows buy-in on what I am trying to “sell.” My subordinates trust I will lead them in the right direction and often come to me for guidance. “Self-confident people are usually inspiring, and people like to be around individuals who believe in themselves and in what they're doing. Likewise, if you're a positive and optimistic person who tries to make the best of any situation, you'll find it much easier to motivate people to do their best ( How Good Are Your Leadership Skills?).” I could improve with the positivity part. People can often feel my frustrations, and I have difficulty hiding my feelings. As a leader, I could do a better job at keeping my thoughts to myself and try to understand better why people are performing in a certain manner or how they came to a decision before jumping to conclusions. Another area I could improve on is promoting a transformational culture. This is when one encourages employees to speak up about what issues the workplace has and how to approach those concerns best (Griffith & White, 2019). In my current workplace, there are many unhappy people due to work conditions. I am one of those people too. Some of my coworkers don’t see things from the same perspective as me, and most of my concerns are that people don’t have the same work ethics as me. As a leader, I could do a better job at seeing people’s concerns and trying to try things the way that they think would improve current processes. It is important to understand everyone’s concerns and see things from a different perspective. This creates a more trusting work environment and shows a willingness to change things that aren’t working.

RYAN

Making decisions involves recognizing a problem, collecting necessary information, and weighing the merits of possible answers. Step-by-step decision-making processes help you organize important information and clarify alternatives, allowing you to make more deliberate, well-considered choices (Ford & Richardson, 1994). In this paper, we will discuss how a Chief Information Officer handles ethical decision makings to deliver support to various people.

Utilitarianism is one of the ethical theories that the CIO can use in making decisions. It is a moral stance that supports doing what makes you happy and condemning what makes you miserable. A utilitarian ideology would consider society as a whole when making social, economic, or political judgments (Introduction to ethical theories). It can be divided into two types: act utilitarianism which is regulations resembling a game pinky, and rule utilitarianism, in which guidelines are more specific and essential. Utilitarianism is common in the works of John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham and seeks what is best for the most people, which includes the individual (Introduction to ethical theories). Utilitarianism requires consideration of actions that generate the best overall consequences for the chief information officer in making good decisions. Businesses may identify which course of action will have the greatest potential to improve the lives of the greatest number of people by conducting cost-benefit analyses to evaluate their options (Introduction to ethical theories). This quote explains a bit more; "The founders of utilitarianism conceived of it primarily as a framework for making public policy, providing a set of principles by which lawmakers and administrators might make decisions."(Williams, 1993, p. 135). Given that in complicated systems or interactions, a single person may not be able to assess the optimal result to the complete number of individuals impacted by the choices, utilitarianism is tailored to managerial and business judgment.

A Chief Information Officer (CIO) is tasked with not only the management of information technology and computer systems of a company, but also in making decisions about future systems that will be necessary for the company based on their objectives and goals. (resources.workable.com)

“An individuals’ ethical system is based upon his or her personal values and beliefs as they relate to what is important and is, therefore, highly individualized.” {Module 1)  So when it comes to making company decisions regarding which systems are needed,  the end result could vary as vastly as the personalities of the people making the decision. One person might take an Utilitarianism approach and look for the greatest good for the greatest number of people. By taking this approach they may look for a system/database that would be mid-range and easy to use. It wouldn’t cost the company an absurd amount of money, while still completing all of the necessary job tasks, and it would be simple enough for employees who have a general knowledge of systems/databases to pick up.

Another CIO may take more of an Egoism approach and look to maximize their own benefits while minimizing harm to themselves. (Module 1) By taking this approach they may suggest that the new system needed is a more expensive and harder to use one. This suggestion may be made in order to ensure a raise and job security after the purchase is made. They may argue that since the system purchased is harder to use they must be compensated for the extra effort they are putting in, and since the level of difficulty is higher, fewer employees would be able to operate it without fear of costing the company more money on top of what they paid.
