Review of the article

This study aimed to investigate the experiences of users of a diabetes self-management app (My Diabetes Coach [MDC]). The authors of the study conducted interviews over the phone with participants who had used the MDC self-management software on their smartphones for a period ranging from one to twelve months. The focus of the interviews was on the characteristics of the app's users, the environment in which the app was used, the challenges and opportunities associated with using the app, and the app's design, content, and method of providing support within the app. The main takeaway from the essay was the idea that user attributes, the environment of app use, and the app's features all interact with one another and drive engagement. The process of promoting effective self-management and then encouraging engagement is very necessary.

The theoretical framework used in the article is: to explore users' real-world experiences with the My Diabetes Coach (MDC) self-management app.

This article provides an app for diabetes self-management called My Diabetes Coach (MDC), which was designed to gather, process, and return the patient's experience that was generated. It discusses the comments from patients and the responses from healthcare providers, all to evaluate the MDC app in terms of the experiences it provides for its users. It has been demonstrated that this system possesses several benefits: the provision of instruction, support, and feedback on diabetic self-care through the utilization of weekly sessions or visits with an embodied conversational agent.

DISCUSSION TWO: JOY UDE

Identify the theoretical framework used in the article you chose (post the name of the theory and explain the theory).

As stated by LoBiondo-Wood and Haber (2018), qualitative research aims to illustrate, understand, or explain phenomena relevant to nursing. (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber 2018). This research study uses the phenomenological theory to emphasize real-world experiences with the My Diabetes Coach (MDC) self-management app. Oldenburg, Baptista, et al. (2020) explained that the study was a sub-study of a randomized controlled trial testing the efficacy of a type 2 diabetes(T2D) self-management app MDC. The problem was conducted from 2014 to 2018 (Australia New Zealand Clinical Trials. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted to evaluate the MDC app in terms of users’ experience by using the qualitative approach to explore subjective perspectives constructed from the experience of people with T2D using a self-management app in their everyday lives. (Oldenburg B, Baptista S, Bird D, Shetty S, & Zemanek J. (2020).

Post a brief review of the abstracts of the primary source and secondary source in the article you chose.

Primary source brief review

Oldenburg, Baptista, et al. (2020) reported that type 2 diabetes had been a growing community health problem agreeable to prevent and promote health. Self-management is essential as it aids in health behaviors that impact disease outcomes and approaches to support and sustain diabetes. The research help to appraise the usefulness of a nurse coaching program; using motivational interviewing paired with mobile health technology on diabetes self-efficacy and self-management for an individual with T2D. The methods used were to compare usual care with an intervention that entailed nurse health coaching and mobile technology to track patient-generated health data and integrate these data into an electronic health record. ( Oldenburg, Baptista, et al. 2020).

Secondary source brief review

According to Cugelman B. (2013), the editorial offers a behavioral science view on gamification and health behavior change, describes its principles and mechanisms, and appraises some evidence for its usefulness. It also explores the relationship between gamification and how the change framework is used in health science. Finally, the study indicates how gamification principles are closely associated with values established to work in health behavior. Changing technology and standards; can be used to assess when gamification provides a potentially promising framework for digital health intervention.( Cugelman B. 2013).
