RE: Discussion 1 - Week 8
Analysis of Interview
The interview I conducted with my participant was informative as to the content and process. The content of the participants responses provided me with another point of view in special education processes. The process of interviewing was easy with the format of the interview guide assisted in being prepared for the meeting. The things I would have done differently during the interview process would be to take more notes onto the interview guide and reviewed the interview questions ahead of time. I did take some notes; however, taking more notes would have assisted me in developing the transcript effortlessly. Reviewing the interview questions prior to the interview would provide me more opportunity for eye contact with the participant. The task of interviewing was predictable as to the outcome where I would collect data and analyze it. The feature that surprised me is the fact that in other states struggle with having the same accommodations for all students as in my state. My participant stated, “make the accommodations more specific for the student and not so cookie cutter.”
Reflection
The value of interviewing as a data collection tool provides firsthand experience from the participants on the topic being researched. Interviewing the participants provides the researcher to ask questions relating to their research. These questions are developed to gain valuable information from the participants experiences and/or background. Responsive interview helps the researcher explore the data intensely through the participants answering the research questions (Rubin & Rubin, 2012).
