Hi everyone!

a) As I continue down the path of obtaining my master’s in health services administration, I have narrowed down where I would like to see myself in the future. I have grown a great interest in the general aspects of healthcare management and operations with oversights in administrative, and legal activities (compliance). After completing my degree, I would like to obtain a different position within the healthcare organization where I have been for almost 2 ½ years. I would like to be in a position where I can work towards providing operational excellence in clinical care management. Long term, I would like to continue my education and attending nursing school to be able to obtain more clinical knowledge to further my career and obtain a position in a compliance role for a healthcare organization.

b) My ideal job would be in a hospital, and I am very open to where in terms of location. Since the job opportunities in South Florida are limited (due to the amount of hospital organizations here), I would be open to moving to another city or state. After meeting several people, I have learned a valuable lesson- to make yourself more marketable you need to take yourself out of your comfort zone to be able to grow as a person and as a professional; which could often be the equivalent to moving out of my home town. I would ideally like to be managing a compliance program in an academic medical center. My knowledge paired with policies, procedures, and processes developed can help to assure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws that govern an academic center.

What are you career plans in the short-term and long-term?

My short-term career plans are to continue to grow in my current field of long-term care. I've been employed with Humana as a Long-Term Coordinator for three years and would like to apply for a management position within my department the moment the opportunity presents itself. As for long term career plans, I plan to be working in the healthcare field in an administrative role, preferably with my current employer but will not dismiss the idea of moving to another organization.

What is your ideal job and where?

I have over 5 years’ experience in case management and therefore an ideal job for me would be Director of Case Management at a hospital or medical clinic in the South Florida area. I previously worked as Dependency Case Manager for child welfare and now as Long-Term Care Coordinator it requires a lot of the same experience and skills as a case manager. Being knowledgeable of the needs of the community, educating community members on how to meet those needs, empowering and making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate has always been a passion of mine.
